Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi guys, does anyone know how to disassemble the armrest in MK7 ? I think a coin has fallen in behind the moveable blind and it is blocking half way :/ not sure if there is a way to dissassemble just a part of it or the whole unit has to be removed ? No one has given me any hints so far.Searched the internet wasn't able to find anything at all. Thanks

Can't help with any dismantling hints but I just had mine fixed as a a warranty problem.
Service advisor reckons they have had a few were they come off the tracks. Mine had been in the open position
since I got the car Jan2014 and just couldn't close it a couple of months ago.

OK, please tell me how I am being and idiot. I have a Mk7 GTI full keyless entry; so the little touch panels on the door handles.
If I touch the panels while the car is unlocked, the car locks. It works as expected. What is supposed to also work is that touching the panels when the car is locked should unlock it. My success rate with this is about 50%. What seems to happen is that I touch the panel, and even though the car is DEFINITELY locked, it appears to try locking it again (I get the softer lock sound). I can do this 4 or 5 times and it never unlocks. I then press the unlock button on my keys and it unlocks. Sometimes the touch to unlock does work, but it's VERY inconsistent. I've even noticed over the last couple days that it doesn't respond to an unlock touch at all, which has me wondering if there is something wrong with my car.
Does anyone else have this feature and if so, how consistent is it? Or is there a trick to this that I am missing?2016 GTI Performance | Pure White | JB1 | Dog Bone | Full Tint | Stop/Start Delete | Avatar by sandwg

Hi there Matt. Agent & Brad are correct in that the handle is grabbed to open the door. I imagine the sensor for opening is on the inside of the door handle that is pulled.
Dont feel like an idiot. I had the same problem and returned the car to the dealership and asked the workshop foreman what the problem was. Would you believe he could not figure it out, which I found embarrassing for the dealership. I mean the foreman, really? The way I figured it out was a Google search that lead to a YouTube demo.White MY17 Golf 7R with DSG and DAP.

I think I read somewhere that by touching the notch on the outside of the door handle of an already locked vehicle, engages a dead-lock?
Which didn't really make sense to me as I would've thought the dead-lock should be activated on the initial lock.
To the car manual!
How's it all going anyway, mattaus? Guess all's great since I haven't noticed you here as often?MY16 MK7 Golf GTI

Mk7 Golf TSI & TDI - Observations and Questions
Confirmed behaviour. I have 100% success rate by grabbing the handle like you are actually opening the door.
I asked the dealer that when I bought the car and it was explained immediately without hesitation.
The one thing I have found annoyance at is having the key in my pocket and brushing up against the door whilst taking my bike on and off the roof racks!
As for the deadlock, I though it was on by default and you turn it off from the infotainment system. I know that my Mk5 And Mk6 cars, 1 press of the key fob locked+deadlock and a second press was locked-deadlock.
