Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Agree, a daily driver would not be practical to cover , mine is a weekend warrior, pure folly and not a shopping trolley. Mines had an easy life since break in, I hand the keys to my mates so I can enjoy the ride along.

        • Deposit done today. Won’t be happy til it’s in the driveway. Great to finally meet a dealer who was happy to get a deal done without any BS

            • Lol. I’m too afraid to say, because they’ve got the deposit and haven’t sent the paper work. I’m paranoid they’re trying to sell it to someone else over the weekend...

              I went direct

              • So my email address was incorrect hence the lack of contract.

                All sorted now.

Went with the team at Launceston VW. Would highly recommend.

Made the purchase super easy, done in less time than it would take to drive to my nearest dealer, where they keep telling me they won’t budge on $66K for a car that has been driven and had grass clippings in the boot.

                $62K drive away.

I'd have to say my poor little hatch might take the record for an easy life. Delivered Sept, just now finishing the first tank of gas as I'm close enough to work to cycle there and there always seems to be family stuff happening weekends. It's yet to be rained on. And I certainly wont be handing the keys to anyone soon, with only wifey having driven us to and fro' a dinner date last week. I've just now started damp microfiber wipe downs to remove the dust that gathers in the garage.

But rest assured VW fans, I still love the thing.

2008 - Mazda 2 - (Maybe my first child scared me a bit) -1998 - Wrx (modded up to but not including forged pistons)
                  1988 - Corolla TwinCam - (couldn't insure a 323 Turbo)
1967 - Tonka Tip Truck - Red with 2 inch plastic rims and a massive sand scoop.

Geez, and I thought I was lacking in the mileage department.. mine is just over two months old and I'm almost due to fill it up. A SECOND time.

It does feel a little sacrilegious to buy one of these things and then park it all the time (although I'll be rectifying this soon). Almost like sticking cheap Chinese tyres on the thing.

Yeah, I dunno ... maybe it's sacrilege to drive one up and down the highway to work everyday then track the life out of it on weekends. Or are those guys just making the most of it ? Maybe it's just neglect that'll get us in trouble with our forum friends ?

Judging by the rate you replace your rides I think you'll be rewarded in years to come.

As for me, well that second fill happened last night.

                        • Different strokes for different folks. I bought mine to use for mostly round town running, so lots of short trips and frequent minor bursts of fun (roundabouts, quick takeoffs from traffic lights & intersections/increases in speed limits) once the oil is up to temp. Most of my longer trips are in my van going to dog agility trials.

I won't comment adversely on how anyone wants to use theirs, they spent their money on it so it's up to them how they use it (or not).

I, on the other hand, comment freely - and honestly, that is the stupidest use I've seen yet.

                            • What brand of fuel are you juicing your rides up with @Dutch and @Greg
FYI I have done 1 x Caltex 1 x Shell and 4 x BP plus the unknown 98 from delivery.

I've run solely BP Ultimate for years now - it was based on something, possibly from an old thread on VWW, that gave it the biggest tick of approval.

Whether that still holds true today I am not sure but have had no issues so I will stick with it for now (although it hurts when in Adelaide given the ownership there).
