Touch Down

Just picked up my Highline yesterday morning.
Very impressed with the level of refinement. It’s soooo quiet on the road. At idle...silent. Not as nippy as my S3, but sure is an easy cruiser and responsive enough around town and the burbs.

Love (love) the interior - superb seats, and great new infotainment system. Huge step up on the S3 MMI Plus.

Colour? I absolutely loved the metallic white, then saw it in the shade and it didn't look good at all, so ended up going with the blue since I've owned 4 new cars to date and they've all been silver/grey, figured it's time for a change.

So ordered a MK 7.5 Golf R in Lapiz Blue, fully optioned on the weekend. Currently have the Mk6 3 door R. (Which is going nuts on car sales! Getting SMS'd every hour!).

Dealer wouldn't budge on pricing and the wait time was 4-5 months to get one with a sunroof. Ended up buying the demo I test drove for $60k including all on roads and front tinting. (Has done 700km). Had a fleet salesman I was talking to tell me he could get me one for $57k today (Following a call I put in from the dealership they didn't answer on the weekend!).

Is $60k a good price?

What KM should I drive it easy until? 1500?

Didn't want to go Wolfie as I don't like the wheels or grey interior funnily enough. We're all different! I like it being as black in the cabin as possible

Blue. Love the blue buttttt......dealer just called back and said he got the date wrong and it’s 15th next month

Looks great, looking at the same package and colour but including the R Line pack. Any reason you didn’t include it and do you mind advising what you paid for it?

In the wild? No. In the dealership, Yes. Looks astounding outside in the sun, but once you see it inside it looks like it's covered in road grime/brake dust.
The sole reason I opted against that colour personally.

Yes. There was one being Opti-coated when I took my new Mazda in (early December).

I liked it (I saw it before and after the Opti-coat was applied). It was certainly a bit more distinctive than going White or Silver but I can understand how it’s a bit of a Marmite colour. I would certainly go for one over a White car but white cars are usually low down on my choice list and I’d probably take Indium Grey or Lapiz Blue before it. I would have it over a Black car though! [emoji4]

Is opticoat etc worth it? I thought the old Ming Mole was just trying to fleece me at the dealer!

Opticoat or Ceramic Pro makes the car much easier to clean and they also help it stay cleaner longer. So from that point of view they are worth it, particularly if you have a darker colored car.
However never use the dealer as it is definitely a rip off, you will pay heaps more for it and it usually isn’t done properly. Best get it done through a specialist, ideally one recommended by the forum for your area.

Yeah, definitely do it. Both of my cars have been done. My 7R was done through the dealer and it’s OK. My Mazda3 was done with Opti-Coat by a specialist and is a significantly better result for the money. I paid $1300 for Opti-Coat body, Opti-Coat Wheels and window tinting.
