Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Obtain your cars VIN from the dealer and go to w&w track & trace, cargo ID is your VIN

          • New Golf 90 TSI

Finally decided to let the trusty 2006 2.0 TDi 6 speed manual go last week and upgrade to a new Golf. Could not fault the old Mk 5 really, close to 100K km with no issues. In its later years it was largely used as a shopping trolley/kids taxi, with the very occasional longer trip to blow the soot out. But on several fronts it was time to move it on, you try to convince yourself the old one was good for the job, but modern motoring advances are good at creating an itch that only a new car can scratch!!!
Decided that the way we drive it these days a diesel was not worth it, and we were keen to stick to a manual transmission, so it was the 90 TSI Comfortline 6 speed manual we went for. Picked it up yesterday and since then have been looking for all sort of outings/errands to run to get behind the wheel!!
Even after 2 days of city driving it really is a nice car indeed, clearly a marked improvement in smoothness and reduced NVH compared to the old model (no doubt due in part to the petrol engine compared to the previous oiler). The other obvious improvement is in the area of "infotainment", but I must be honest and say this does come at the cost of simplicity of function - there are now a myriad of messages on display, both in the MFD and the touch screen in the console. And the whole Stop-Start function, particularly in a manual car with no handbrake for hill starts, is going to take a bit of getting used to.
But all in all happy motoring!!!

ABCD: congratulations on making a good decision. I know that you will thoroughly enjoy the car -it's a real pleasure to drive.
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

              • Hi all. I originally posted this question in the GTI forum but perhaps this will be seen by a wider audience and hopefully get a response. My golf is going in for its first service this week and I was just wondering what issues any of you have had with your cars since taking delivery that I should perhaps be mindful of. Many thanks

Only issues we've had on our GTI was a clunk from RHF lower control arm and an ongoing issue with coolant going brown and contamination in the header tank.

                  • Anyone received any info on vehicles off the Talisman yet? My car has been in Melbourne for a fortnight now but is still with Patricks- no sign of it at the dealer.

Wow. Fantastic, thanks. I can see my car left Belgium, stopped in the UK and a couple of places in the USA. It's going through the Panama Canal later today. Then off to Papeete, Auckland, Melbourne, then unloaded a month today at Port Kembla with 146 other Volkswagens.

Also still waiting. Mine was unloaded at the next stop, Pt Kembla then road transport to Newcastle. Made an enquiry with the dealer and early March is looking good.

Interesting how the one coming to Sydney was unloaded in Melbourne while Newcastle one was unloaded in Wollongong.
