The Official "I have ordered/received my new MK7 Golf" Thread
Picked up my wife's new 90 TSI DSG yesterday which we ordered New Year's Eve. Originally ordered in black we later switched to pure white and the car looked fabulous with the Victorian black and white plates in the series starting with A. Like the last few cars the dealer gave us the choice of a narrow range numbers. So our 90 TSI was parked on the showroom floor with a grey metallic Golf R parked behind, 3 digits later with one of the plate choices we'd passed over.
The paint and preparation was fantastic. The material in the 90 TSI seats I prefer the look of to the Comfortline, but the material does feel a shade coarse. Had a small moment buyers remorse last night, the Golf is so good was thinking could have justified a Comfortline although they are another $7k.
Our TSI has come with Continental tyres. Later on if I can talk the boss around the slightly lower profile 16" tyres we'll get done Toronto wheels and probably fit Michelin Primacy 3 ST tyres.
Today out and about with my wife's old Mk 5 Golf, 1.6 manual. New tyres today, Michelin Energy XM2 all around. Sadly Michelin no longer import the Primacy LC in 15" size. These were a NVH transformation when fitted so hopefully the XM2 are not far behind. Then once RWCd the Mk 5 will be going to a sibling. A major upgrade from a 1999 Daewoo Lanos she's currently driving. A very soft spot for this Mk 5! It runs better no than when new, been garaged all its life. There's a certain pleasure in manually changing gears. But perhaps less so in traffic.
Wife not so keen on the stop start in the new Golf (you can alter the settings). But it's kind of novel in traffic, must save a lot of fuel. Inside VW have done a terrific job with the Mk 7 dash, even our base model looks very polished.
Mine arrived yesterday. Lapiz have been boxed, RE050As are heading north to a member and Barney's Tallys have taken pride of place. I have wrapped them in Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
A little VCDS has traffic up and running and fake sounds have been reassigned 0% volume.
Will probably wrap the rest of the roof and some more VCDS tweaks to come when I get some time. So far, fun car!
Must be on the same boat my GTI is on due Melbourne Feb 2 on the "Tulane", then to Pt Kembla where mine will be unloaded, can't wait!
The happy salesman just rang to say my GTI/P will be available earlier than anticipated. Unfortunately for me I'm away at work and don't get home for another 3 weeks. I was hoping it would have arrived before I left for work but no such luck.
Finally !!! After a 6 month wait. Picked up my Golf R this afternoon. Lovin it.
Got home and one of the rims has a small dent in the lip Was hiding behind some blackish tyre/sticker goop. Back to dealer.
BTW, my original Golf R order (Blue, DSG +DA) still had not been processed by the factory... nothing, zip. Word is, get a common spec otherwise you will never get it.

I'm picking up my GTI Performance on Tuesday and want to get some paint protection for it. My preferred detailer is on holidays so was wondering who else to get to do the job in eastern suburbs of Melb.
I have heard of Dan's Garage and he is not far from home, any one have experience with him?

I've known Dan for quite some years and cannot speak too highly of his work. You will struggle to find an operation with a higher attention to detail.
As a testament to that, you will find that he's booked well in advance. My car was a few days late (arrived last week) and this meant that we had to push back my date to the end of April. Regardless, I know it will be well worth the wait.
