After my Golf R order had not been processed by the factory after 5 months, I bit the bullet and settled on a similar spec Golf R that was already on a boat over to Aus. Its supposed to arrive around Feb 10.
Not happy with the service... but will be glad to get it.

I ordered mine from a Melbourne dealer in mid Nov last year and took delivery in the 3rd week of Jan. If you are waiting 5 months, then something else is going on. Maybe the dealer thinks you're a tyre kicker? Did you put down a fair dinkum deposit with the order?

8 weeks = already on the boat and dealer order for general stock. If it's a specific build and then ship you can double that- and then some, so 4-5 months is typical.

DSG, Leather and Sunroof in Blue - mine was a special build. Was started only a week or two after I ordered. They also got a black manual in for stock if anyone is interested. VW Ringwood.

So i heard from my dealer today, My car was offloaded in Sydney and transported to Brisbane, So should hopefully have it by the end of the week, I would say at least a few people would be in the same boat.

When does the car get registered? After its sent to the dealer? I want to finalize my insurance but with out a VIN or rego number it can't be done.

Give them a call and ask them to email you the VIN. They should comply.

My car was offloaded in Melb on 28/1, called the dealer yesterday and they haven't received it yet.
Estimated time before pick up they told me is 2 weeks (could be earlier), as they have to send it off for paint protection and to tint the other windows.

I asked my dealer for the rego number they would put on my car but they told me that I would only find out the rego the day before delivery/handover.

They should be able to give you the VIN once they have received the car which is also what I'm waiting on for insurance purposes.

I organized all that in 30 minutes while sitting with the business manager. I was on the phone to AAMI, they emailed VW and all was done. Even though you only buy a car once in a blue moon, they go through the process a lot so don't stress about it.

I'm buying through novated lease and they require proof of insurance 24 hrs before car pickup so the earlier i get the info, the better.

My Golf is on a ship that's due to dock on 9th March. Is anyone else in the same boat? Does anyone know the name of the ship so we can track its course on the Internet (perhaps even when it's due to leave Germany), please?
