Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah, there are a few ways around it. I could get it now and have 2 months worth of dual lease payments (which I can afford but I'd rather avoid). Or I can instruct the leasing company to start the payments when I'm ready (a colleague pulled that trick with his current car). The second I get the GTI I'll want to start spending money on it....although that's already started. I have a pile of goodies sitting in my office at home waiting for the car to arrive lol.

    I should just be patient

I feel your pain - my garage is half full with boxes of bits to screw onto the car when it arrives too!

Which leasing company do you use, if you dont mind me asking?

As if to highlight my point I asked my dealer how long it would take to get the car now that it is in the country. I was previously told by them that this part of the process usually takes 2-3 weeks. Suddenly it is now 3-4 weeks.

Because they aren't in a hurry I guess.

Leaseplan. I could have gone with SG Fleet (my current provider) or Fleetcare, but Leaseplan had the best deal by far. I even tried fighting them off against each other lol. Sort of worked. My only regret is that I didn't wait 2 months to see what the MY16 cars would be like, but then hindsight is a wonderful thing. My car is an MY16 model anyway (GTI PP) but if I had known the R was coming standard with leather I probably would have gone for it. $53k is nothing to sneeze at for an R (although there are pretty valid reasons for why I chose the GTI so I should keep reminding myself of that haha). On the other hand the $5k a year I'll save in lease payments will allow me money to use on the car itself

                    Ah well, live and learn!

Nice! As long as your happy with your decision, that's all that counts. I'm getting out of a GTD, but my previous car was a GTI. They're still one hell of a car, and the PP will be a tonne of fun!

There's not a lot of movement between them if its a finance lease with budgeted products anyway I guess. Dealer quote, interest rate and management fee are the only levers which differentiate on pricing. To compare apples with apples you need to make sure they have the same residual though.

What made it hard was that they all worked out their maintenance budgets in totally different ways, and that's where the bulk of the costs seem to come from. This is my third lease so you'd think I'd have it under control by now haha. Leaseplan had the cheapest car, the lowest residual, and somehow the lowest maintenance costs. I'm not overly concerned as I watch my budget fairly closely, so if I notice it starting to dip too far into the red I will just increase my payments

                        • The budgeted products are just a kitty of your own money, you can set them to what you want. If the leasing company doesn't let you - find a new leasing company

Yup! Thankfully I've had no problems with SG Fleet (two cars in a row) so I'm hoping Leaseplan are as easy to deal with. A number of people in my office have leases through Leaseplan and I've heard nothing bad, so I should be right.

Dealer contacted me today and informed me that the car will be ready for delivery on Monday. A two week turn around, not too bad.

Lucky you! My dealer is sticking to the end of the month which will make it four weeks from when it came off the boat.
