Heart sank a bit today, finally got the tracking to show my VIN (Wolfsburg Hatch) only to find out that it won't get here until mid October (apparently the boat hasn't even sailed yet). Dealer keeps telling me they are trying to get 'my' car ready before a car rally I have at the start of October but I'm starting to think that unless they swap the VIN on me it's not going to be here for another two months.

I think you might be pushing your luck getting it mid Oct if the boat hasn't even left.
My car is already on the boat and is now just travelling underneath Africa.
I'm not expecting it until the week of the 12th Oct it left on the 17th of August.
I'm in Sydney so that might be a couple of day's extra vs Adelaide.
Once it's left Bremerhaven in Germany it takes about 1.5 months to get to Sydney.

That's exactly what I was thinking. If they are telling me that the VIN number that is on my order form is my car then there is no way I will get it in time. The only way I will have one before the 11th of October (when I need it by) is if they have one for me in the first batch that arrives.

Can anyone confirm a ship is coming into port botany on or just before 14/9 with Golf R Wagons? I don't yet have a VIN number and can't rely on what the dealers tell me. Thanks in advance

There's only one basically on/before the 14th, the Durban Highway (that's to Port Kembla). Otherwise there's the Oberon on the 15th.

Sorry to say but if you've been given a vin number and it doesn't show on the wilhelmsen site your car has not even arrived at the shipping yard to be allocated for shipping. In my experience the dealer will just tell you what they think you want to hear (particularly if you have set a date that you need to have the car by). Wonder if we have both bought from the same dealer?

That's not true; I've seen many instances when the tracking site lags behind, and the ship has sailed before the VIN shows up on tracking. This was the case with my last two cars.

Sadly just spoke with the dealer and looks like now that the VIN is showing up in the tracking, won't be here in time for my Sydney car show. Guess I will pick it up late October!

That's frustrating, which show is it? My trainee sales guy let me know today my wagon will be in at the dealers toward the end of the month but has told me VW are having delays due to the release event.

I say 'show' but it's actually a 'rally' (however whenever I say that people think dirt rally haha). It's the Modball Rally.

Don't know why more dealers don't give their customers the printout they have on their system showing the complete schedule of the car.
It shows when it's being built, the arrival at Bremerhaven where the cars leave from Germany and the approx dates for arrival into Australia and delivery to the customer.
With the VIN and this info I was able to track the boat before in even arrived into Germany to pick up my car! and now it's at Port Elizabeth in South Africa.
I don't have to bug the dealer about what's happening with my car and it's less stress for them and you.
Not sure why VW don't make a Web portal so this can happen automatically - customer just puts in a sales order number and it shows you on a map what's happening.
