Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Hi All,

Waiting impatiently for delivery of my MY18 Golf r wolfy due mid October...it's half way down the African coast currently.

Does anyone know if there were changes made to the 7.5 r between the MY17 and MY18. One of the dealers I spoke to told me the brakes are upgraded. Anyone have detailed specs for the car...down to the brake specs level?

There was one motor mag article that did a review and said the new 7.5 had upgraded brakes. The article was wrong. I have yet to hear of an MY18. My insurance company checked when I got my 7.5 and said VW classed the current ones as MY17 with the 7.5 being just a variant. Who knows.

Must be on a different ship to mine then. Mine is on the Morning Glory, which isn't supposed to stop at Fremantle, only Melbourne, Wollongong (ETA 9 Sep 2017) & Brisbane. What ship is yours on ?

The only brake upgrade I've heard of for 7.5 Rs is part of the Performance Pack being offered in Europe (along with an Akrapovic exhaust and some "aero" additions. Here's a link to an Oz article about it:

First you need your vin, once you have that then you check the vessel name, one you have the vessel name then go to this site to track it:

When I was playing around with the system, I saw an option for wireless/CarNet and my dealer said you can connect connect your phone wirelessly to the HU and use the phone as a remote.
Is that what CarNet is? Never had it before.

Ok, here's my attempt to get some shots you haven't seen already. One of the steering wheel depth. It looks quite thin from front on, but it's quite deep front to back. It's possible to hold it comfortably and not eventually grubby up that nice contrasting stitching.
Another shot of a close up under the front bumper - I originally thought the car looked a bit under-tyred. But they look wider in the flesh. And one in the showroom - I bet you haven't seen a bow that beautiful adorning a VW before !!

I tried to get a shot of the driver's seat memory buttons - but it came out blurry. There was some confusion earlier about the fob storing the settings - it's done by 4 buttons near the floor.

                        Thanks.

Mines due for delivery in 6 weeks but being told they don't have a VIN yet. Would have car was built and on a ship by now?

Hmmm, I'd be a bit skeptical that you will have your car in 6 weeks if they can't give you your VIN yet (it is allocated BEFORE they actually start the physical build). The boat trip from Germany to Wollongong alone takes at least 40 days (but Fremantle is closer), then it has to have some Ozzification at the port before it is sent to the dealer, then the dealer has to do their prep as well.

If you don't have a vin. I would question it.
You receive a vin before the car is built. So if the car is supposedly on the ship then they will definitely have the vin.
I would push them for the vin.

Dealer just sent me vin claiming it was "loaded up yesterday" whatever that means. They're still on for delivery in 6 weeks they claim.

When I searched W&W ship tracking website it doesn't recognise VIN no, suggesting it's not yet shipped.

So you see it on W&W or not?
It can take a few days to appear once the ship as sailed but if he said mid Oct to arrive in Aus then sounds about right.
It takes about 4-5 weeks to get here one it has sailed.
