Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

    I just spoken to the dealer, they still waiting for build dates, people with vin number already for Wolfsburg's, have no roof. The no sunroof where build first. Apparently there is a shortage of active info displays world wide, for all models.

      Mine still doesn't show up on the shipping website.
      But I do have my vin. So I assume it is still on the production line and the build process has started?? ..

          It won't show up until it is actually on the boat (or even a little later in my case).
          2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

            Took the new 7.5 R out for a spin today - couldn't really tell too much difference between that and the old 7 R. Very close to pulling the trigger on one, though!

              Has anyone here bought an R without all the options?
              What can one expect to negotiate for a baseline (no DAP or sunroof) manual R mk7.5? Is 50k achievable?

                I got mine for $58,3 with all options
                So take $3500 off because of the options

                  I just ordered mine (Base spec R with manual transmission) for $53,500 drive-away. It won't be delivered until end of Dec though

                    Anyone driven the r 7.5 with the dq381?
                    I have it in the alltrack and find it a great gearbox how does it fit with the r motor?

                      I have it in our FL s3 sedan and it's fantastic, big improvement over the previous 6sp. The sports/race is actually usable similar to my Mk7R with DSG tune on it. Fuel economy is better on hwy driving as will go into 7th gear from say 80km/h up and at 100 sits about 400rpm lower than 6sp.

                          Is the sports mode of "Eco" or "Comfort" milder than that of "Normal" sports ?
                          And does sport setting make any difference when you're already in "Race" mode ?

                            Haven't really checked. Just drive the car in individual mode with everything set on normal except engine sound on dynamic for bit more exhaust note. Then put transmission into sports mode when to liven it up or take off bit faster. It then holds gears longer as expected but unlike previous 6sp where it held 2nd gear "forever" this trans will happily change to 3/4/5th gear so car more responsive and alive and in the torque band. It will sit say 2 gears lower than D mode. Many people unless cruising in traffic will be able to just leave it in sports mode rest of time. Very similar to a 6sp trans with DSG tune.
