Can anyone recommend a dealership that is likely to have stock and more importantly, not going to be painful to deal with? I'm in Darwin but will buy from anywhere in Aus. Have started with car sales but expecting it to be a slow and painful process even though I'm ready to sign immediately for the right deal.

Speak to Deb Shawyer at Southern Volkswagen here in Adelaide, I've bought a Mk7 R and a Touareg from her and she's been great to deal with. Tell her I've (Aaron Semler) sent you. Hopefully she'll come to the party straight off the bat.

    • And yes +2 on the opti-coat! Well worth it. You could get Hamish at Elite Finish here to do it before you take delivery of it.

Hey mate, im from Darwin also with one of the two lapiz blue up here. They have a couple on the floor currently and i believe there is a 'stock price+ $1' sale happening this weekend on all new cars. If you go in there and talk to the sales manager he is a really good bloke(think its mitch or ben, cant remember without finding his business card) and tell him your my friend (Daniel) and that should put you on a good starting point.
Also i have a VCDS cable so if you need anything done at anytime let me know and I can help you out.

Thanks Daniel, I've seen your car around and know of you via Matt (Lexus).
Didn't realise there were some in stock up here -- generally find after a lifetime in Darwin the dealers are painful to deal with.

Have an offer from interstate now for $53,000 excluding stamp duty and rego for a demo with 700km, dsg, driver assist package and leather. That's delivered to Darwin (so about $2000 of that price is probably transport).

            Thoughts?

            • I would go to them with that deal and see what they can do as they want to get rid of there stock as they have been there a while before the my16's come in. I highly doubt they would be able to beat your offer but if you don't ask then you will never know.
Last time i was there 3/4 weeks ago they had a lapiz blue out in the car lot(you can see it when you drive past) and a silver/white one in the showroom.
Also the manager is micheal. Young bloke who sits behind the 2 other salesman.
Good to have another mk7 R up here. Soon there will be enough up here for a little get together.

              • Put a deposit on a blue manual with no options 52.5k onroad. Not ideal price but caved in! Should pick up by the weekend

                  • USP 3" Stainless Steel Downpipe: MK7 Golf R, S3, A3 Quattro (Catted) - USP-MQBQ-CAT

Latest downpipe released. Cheapest on market so far roughly $1k delivered. Has nice video attached showing stock vs DP in number of driving conditions. Can't believe how much better it sounds just with DP!

                    • Don't order that DP as appears not direct fit for RHD cars. Best option for price and good quality looks the CTS which I will get in coming months.

                      • My work mate recently fitted a CTS downpipe to his Mk7 Golf R after i recommended it to him. Nothing wrong with the downpipe (nicely made and fits well) but the dyno results from stage 1 to stage 2 are pretty disappointing to say the least.....less power and laggier under 4,000rpm and only an extra 4kw right up the top.

I wouldnt bother with a downpipe until the tuners (APR in this case) can sort out their stage 2 tunes.

                        • Lucas, thanks for that! I'll definitely hold off going stage 2 until tune sorted!

It's only this week that beta tester in UK had his car tuned all day fixing up issues with stage 2! Initially he lost power as minor issue. Now that fixed stated 400hp and 400lbs with torque from just over 2000rpm!

He has the BCS downpipe and reviews from him from start of adding DP stated decent gains especially in low end response!

I'm only looking at stage 2 for better exhaust note and better low end response/torque so at present sounds opposite to that!

Thanks again for update! I see US spec gained more torque and response 400rpm sooner, maybe lots of fine tuning still needed to get ROW stage 2 ready and as such not released. Better not to rush release and get it spot on from start anyway!

                          • ^ yes i saw that thread from the UK that you are referring to. According to APR Australia, the USA spec cars are getting a better result between stage 1 and stage 2 because their stage 1 isnt as powerful as Aust spec cars....our Aust spec stage 1 cars are just as fast/slightly faster that USA spec stage 2 cars.

Yeah, I heard that too. I'm mainly just hoping for the increase in turbo spool low end response. So basically min turbo lag, just foot down and goes from 2000 to red line. I'm pretty sure the UK guy had 388hp stage 1 and intake and stage 2 only got him another 12hp so minimal gains in top end but as stated in number of other forums more to stage 2 than just top numbers. If just looking at it for top numbers not worth it.

Initially he made thread about stage 2 beta actually robbed him of 20hp and 20nm and only last few days did APR spend entire day fine tuning car and now got those 400hp/400lbs numbers with fantastic low end torque.

I'd like the increase in turbo spool roughly 400rpm sooner than stage 1 looking at US spec, also the increased exhaust note making car sound more sporty. Again I will only do this once good tune released that matches this with dyno evidence and drivers reviews. Not in any rush stage 1+ fantastic anyway but were always looking ahead.

                              • I'm about to fit CTS Downpipe to my Wolfsburg. Putting a JB1 in at the same time. JB1 is pretty handy in that you can set your own boost map in 500RPM increments, to (hopefully) tune out the loss from the downpipe in the low-end.
