Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • I had a rattle in drivers door when exhaust drone loudest. Took it back to dealer and they apologised and fixed it up.

      • Just back from my 1st drive in my new Pure White R on a mixture of twisties, hills and highway (out for about an hour). Very very happy, no creaks, no rattles, no drone, super quick gear changes, left in normal mode and was super well planted but still very comfortable on country B roads. Feel more comfortable with the Pure White colour and look (vs my dear departed Lapiz Blue), looks classy, had the front windows tinted to match the privacy so the whole black and white look is there but somewhat less in your face with the Cadiz rims giving a bit of class, somewhat a sleeper but still a head turner. Like the leather seats, DAP works well, all in all a great package

        • Good to hear Andrew.

When you said there is no drone, did you think there was drone in your first R?

          Comment

          • Yes Genez I did notice drone in my 1st R (first batch of Oz R's) particularly on change down to lights etc. Whilst I've only done 8-10 lights today I didn't notice an unpleasant drone or vibration at all. Perhaps this has been sorted with the latest batch of R's or maybe it's first day rose tinted glasses lol Will report back in due couse

            • good to hear andrew, would be good to get a comparison with someone on the forum that lives close to you that is complaining about the drone.

On a sidenote, went into Dynolink and purchased myself an APR carbon intake and boost tap. will put pics up next week on the unpack and install. good time to buy as i walked in only 10 minutes after they received the email about the sale, so thought i would spend the same and get the boost tap for free.
Now i was thinking about rigging up the boost tap ready for a gauge install when released but was wondering if it will "leak" boost as a gauge will not be connected as yet, any thoughts?

              • Just plug it with a bit of hose connected& large screw wedged into the end of the hose, use good cable ties or get hose clamps. (I say large as you don't want something small enough to get sucked into the intake!)
Some taps have a small rubber bung to block off too.
Definitely don't run it while venting metered air to atmosphere under boost and drawing unmetered air under vacuum, it will have terrible idle and likely throw an error.

                • That's what I was thinking and then cut the wedged peice and then feed to gauge when I get it.

Would the air coming out of line be a vacuum or positive, depending on what, depends if you can block it or bend cable back on itself and hose clamp

Glad you love the new car Andrew - enjoy!
I think a few people on here will be very interested in your future comments regarding the dreaded drone. Hopefully it will be sorted as that will give us some hope that it is curable.

                          • Hey Kevin, went for Tint-a-Car Octane $140 total for the front windows, looks good.

Did you consider getting a clear film on the rear for UV protection?

Really keen on seeing pics also as Tiny-a-Car said Bolle would suit better than Octane considering the tinge in the privacy glass.

                              • Hey Jonoz, wasn't fussed with the clear film, believe std auto glass should have reasonable protection. To my eye the Octane works well, will take a few side profile photos when I'm home from the beach and back to the R on Tues.
