Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Still better than the R35 GTR which would void warranty after 3 launches.
I believe they revised that for the 2013 model though.

Personally the too best color options are the limestone grey and (it's not available on the R ) carbon steel. The white looks too bland especially once you see a S3 in glacier white, black... Nuff said i.e. never has, is or will be clean for more than 5 min. Blue/red too boy racer. And silver well it's ok....
But these are just my opinions and carry not weight

^ Agree on carbon steel Alex, I find limestone grey too brown tho and is common on low spec Golfs (would have preferred Mk6 United Grey).
Anyway have pulled the trigger on the R (couldn't ignore the price savings on the R circa $9k on an already heavily discounted S3 with Pp):
Lapiz Blue, DSG, Leather, Assistance Pack, Tint + Solargard Film (latter on std privacy glass), full tank etc $58.5k (corporate plus + prexisting dealer relationship).
Test drive sealed the deal, angry growl on flooring it, DSg farts ++, utterly stable and planted on the road, no rattles/squeaks, comfy leather seats, sat nav below par but only a occasional use item, led lighting A1, more spacious than S3, 2 dead peddle footrests key for me on long drives (no right dead peddle on the S3), overall a powerhouse!

This waiting game is torture! Been told anywhere from 2 weeks to the end of May for my R
My mate sent me a pic of one on the road yesterday (Limestone Grey), I reaaaaaally like that colour. Not to mention the Cadiz 19's are actually looking really nice in person, the stock pics on all the ads and reviews make them look way too chrome and shiny for my tastes but as you can see, they're more of a brushed/gunmetal grey.

I don't believe the R comes in Carbon Steel. See attached dealer specs:
