Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Yeah I know what you mean but surprisingly I went in about 2 weeks ago and they got a 5 litre bottle and put about 400ml in and cost me nothing and was done on the spot

And did they not tell you that if you ever open the bonnett, pull the dipstick or even touch the oil cap, vw will void your warranty

Hahahahaha wow. Who told you that, it is part of the owners maintenance listed in the owners manual to do a weekly check on tyre pressure, washer bottle and engine oil

The manual is in black and white, their words and merely air.

When picking up the R the person told me to, "drive it like you own it" and while ambiguous I have chosen to drive it according to the owner's manual...

              • It's somewhere in between 'babying it' and 'redlining it'

                • ^ This, bring it to temperature and then give it the beans (having said that avoid super "high" revs).

BTW, Mikey1's and my R's ship docks today in Melbourne. Should have our rigs in 2/52

(btw, great find on that review Sergio, another win for the R!)

I check it every pay fortnight just to make sure it isn't running low on oil, last thing you want is to give it the berries after operating temp is sufficient and then realise late you had low oil

                      • I used to check it often but it lasts almost the entire 15,000kms/1 year between services. Plus I can see a number value representing how much oil I have on the dash. So I check it when I refill the windscreen washer bottle or just before a big trip.
