Nup, apparently from the standard, it takes a year or two for the seat manufacturers to get approved still, Britax will have first one sold here soon, and it isn't for babies, only front facing. Hey guys, test drove the R and the GTI-P yesterday and I found the R more planted n more exciting. It felt like it had more to give as you rev it towards the redline compared to the GTI which felt a bit flat to me. while the GTI is definitely fast enough for me as a daily drive, I find myself wanting to go with the R because of the manic acceleration n the 4wd platform.
The only issue I have with the R is the drone. Is this an exhaust drone or is it part of the artificial sound that is pumped in through the speakers and if so, can it be disabled? I found the drone really annoying after a while. Is anyone else bothered by it?

It is a bit of both mate with the drone, did you try driving the car in comfort or Eco, because in race it is definitely more noticeable but with the others it does tone it down a fair bit, the soundaktor is definitely louder in race above 3500rpm, or so it seems, even when engine isn't under load2014 Limestone Grey Mk7 Golf R

In comfort mode or Eco mode on the freeway I've had no issue with drone. Sometimes on change down to the lights it can drone a bit however the soundakator mod is quite effective at toning it down a tad if required (I had it adjusted to 75% which was perfect).

Like you I find the drone a bit annoying but have owned the car a few months and find it less problematic now. I found that if I travel at lower speeds with the roof open the drone is significantly reduced.
I don't find the highway drone bad at all but the drone that develops when engine braking/ slowing down when approaching intersections is bad and is certainly exhaust related. My Soundakator has been turned off - the engine sounds great.
I talked to VWA and they aren't interested at all despite the fact that the low speed drone could be eliminated with a simple adjustment to the butterfly valves (in the active exhaust) to close them when decelerating and below 1600rpm. After all that is one reason you have an active exhaust.Last edited by Benz; 08-09-2014, 09:04 AM.

I should say apart from the wing above, I absolutely love the R. It has the perfect combination of performance, ride quality, subdued style and stunning handling for me. I just love it and look forward to driving it whenever I can. Easily the best car I have ever owned!

Hey mate, how did you go about getting the Soundaktor turned off? I have read through the Soundaktor thread but did you get the dealer to disable or elsewhere? Just wondering if its going to be something missus would dislike so wondering how easy it would be to flick on/off.Originally posted by Benz View PostMy Soundakator has been turned off - the engine sounds great.

It should be fairly east to put a switch in the wire to the Soundaktor. I know people have done it in Mk6, mostly on USA forums. They ran it to one of the blanks in front of the gear knob and bought a matching switch to fit in the blank. If you were really clever you could do the same for the exhaust valves too, although it would be somewhat more involved, and have best of both worlds.Looking for:- RS4 B7 Avant.
Current:- Amarok V6 Sportline; Mazda CX-9 Azami AWD

Yep. Quote for Pretorias a couple of months ago was $7500 landed! Nice. But not that nice.

I got my soundakator turned off at the dealers - absolutely no trouble and about 5 minutes to do and no charge. I guess you could add a switch but honestly I love it without. But that is just for me though!Originally posted by jonoz View PostHey mate, how did you go about getting the Soundaktor turned off? If only VWA would ask Germany to reprogram valve controller (ECU), the car would be perfect I reckon.

That's approximately $300 more than from a dealer's spare parts dept without a discount, where a minimum of 10% should be achievable anyway. However, anybody would be crazy to buy a set, when you can buy after-market, and get something much lighter and stronger for about half the cost of any of the OEM 19" wheels.Originally posted by irossiter View PostYep. I'll have to remember to get them to disable it if I do end up getting an R. It did sound softer when I put it into comfort mode, but if it can be disabled that would probably be my preference.Originally posted by Benz View PostI got my soundakator turned off at the dealers - absolutely no trouble and about 5 minutes to do and no charge. With regards to adjustment to the butterfly valves, is this something a workshop can do?
