Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hey mate,

Yeah this is a thicker bar and it's a solid not hollow bar. It's 25mm.

You could buy it from OT for $315 delivered.

Would that be an S3 vs Golf R?
there is thousand of pagesd about the benefits of each one and you have provided no additional information to help us guide you.

Better of reading the mk7 section thoroughly.

        • Does the S3 have an AutoPark feature?

I noticed it's in the GTI and the Tiguan (also 4Motion) but not on the Golf Rs (both Mk6 and 7)

            Yes, and it's standard too!

              • MY2015 Golf R Power Boost

I read somewhere that the MY2015 Golf R and Audi S3 will receive a small increase in power from 206kW to 210kW, but apart from a few sporadic posts in other forum posts, I have seen nothing official. Does anyone have any information that confirms whether this is really true. I don't recall any previous similar models receiving a power boost part way through their model cycle, certainly not 3 to 4 months after launch. This won't please early adopters, even though 4kW would hardly be noticeable. Of course, this increase will be irrelevant to those who plan to add performance modifications to their engines.

The target market for the S1 is very different to the R. While they both have a 2.0L turbo engine, AWD and similar 0-100 km/h times, that is where the similarities end. The S3 will only be made as a 3-door with manual transmission. I imagine it might not even come to Australia as the target market here would want an auto/DCT. The interior and exterior design are definitely targeting a much younger audience.

                      Hey mate,

                      Orange Tuning in Germany.
With a 19x8.5 +44 is a very good offset. Rear sits flush (maybe 2-3mm inside the guard), front has about 5mm poke outside the guard. Nothing a little bit of camber won't fix (with superpro control arms when released in few weeks).

I haven't had any issues with my setup as my car is at stock height and plenty of gap between the tyre and the guard.

Yes, there is indeed a 5-door called the S1 Sportback, and it will be sold here for $50K, undercutting the Golf R manual by exactly $2K. If you are in the target demographic for this model, I see your dilemma. It won't be as practical as the Golf R, as far as interior and cargo space is concerned, but you probably have already discounted this as not being a priority for you. Given this model is manual only, I think it would have limited appeal in Australia, so it will probably be a lot rarer on the roads than the Golf R. However, if the S1 SB suits your personality and needs, and you like manuals, go for it!

I agree there is limited appeal due to manual only and one of my concerns is that there will be limited after market parts made for the S1 and id love to mod it a bit

Given it's coming off the Polo/A1 base there will be plenty of gear available, except for anything particularly specific to the S1 such as tune etc.

As a base the R is going to be better to mod and work off.
