Makes me very nervous. Especially with the illegal tyres the factory fitted on mine.

From Street FX Motorsport & Graphics Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/streetfx, user comments suggest the failure was so extreme, it must have resulted from a violent impact with something, such as a large rock. There are some interesting comments about the differences between cast wheels and forged wheels, where cast wheels shatter and forged wheels just bend. Also, Volkswagen Australia are supposedly well aware of the incident and taking it very seriously.Originally posted by MkVIGTI View PostApparently they did hit sth, one of the passengers posted on WP

This was posted a couple of pages back and has been a subject of discussion. You might want to have a read.Originally posted by Lock & Load View PostNew Golf R wheels may have a major design material fault be aware , this Brisbane cars wheel totally disintegrates at speed.
Speculation at this point is that they may well have hit something; someone on the scene posted on Whirlpool and suggests it was not a fault of the car: Mk7 Golf R (Page 19)2008 MkV Volkswagen Golf R32 DSG

My wife currently drives a 12.5 POLO GTI and i have not been impressed by the way VW treats its customers keep them in the dark and feeds them bull**** , i also own a RX7 FD 3S rotary engined twin turbo and it does not use 10 % of the amount of oil as this Polo GTI Supercharged turbo Engine WTF .Originally posted by Mikey1 View PostCongratulations on your wise choice. It certainly looks good in red with the S performance package and sunroof. I'm sure forum members would be interested to know what was your criteria in choosing the S3 over the R, even if it's all been heard before from others.
My other reason was the cheap quality finnish on the Golf R , yes i sat and drove the Golf R priced it up to similar specs as i have on my Audi S3 and it was only $1700 cheaper , in my mind the Audi S3 is at a different level of looks and finish .

I have been monitoring his post of FB on the MK7 R page and he has posted up that VW have done their investigation and he should have an outcome later today/tomorrow.Originally posted by AdamD View PostSpeculation at this point is that they may well have hit something; someone on the scene posted on Whirlpool and suggests it was not a fault of the car: Mk7 Golf R (Page 19)
Ill post up any updates and as a 7R owner i'm quite curious as to what the investigation has/may of found.

You are kidding? This is clear cut, fix it now VW! Those tyres have a lot of stretch, it must be like driving the Flintstones car on any kind of road except ultra smooth...Originally posted by DrK View PostVw still dragging heels 2 weeks later. FML.---

I see. So Golf Rs come with 235 width tyres like the Tiguan? I always thought they used 225.Originally posted by team_v View Posttyres not wide enough and not with a high enough load rating:

They were 225s on the Mk6 as the Talladegas I believe are 7.5 wide.Originally posted by DoggieHowser View PostI see. So Golf Rs come with 235 width tyres like the Tiguan? I always thought they used 225.
VW went to 235s on the Mk7 as the Cadiz are 8 wide.
It's about the load rating, to suggest 225 on 8 inch wide tyres is a stretch is just wrong.
