Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I have always wondered why enthusiasts have modified their cars to their liking and then sell them with mods still in-place. Wouldn't it make more sense to return their cars to stock standard, and sell the hardware mods separately. At least with standard parts fitted, no prospective buyer will be the wiser. Perhaps this is not very transparent, but as always, caveat emptor!

Appreciate some people shy away from modifications but I'd rather be honest like most people are on this forum when selling their pride and joy. The car was offered in both stock and modified state, given how many GTIs and Rs are modified I think most second hand buyers accept this.

Factory options add nothing to the value except in rare cases, mine only had leather and bluetooth, was immaculate as the local VWW contingent can attest and was under 20,000km.

As most would be aware by now I'm fairly in touch with what something is worth and how to work a deal, and was priced under $30k. I can be honest - it was wholesaled for $26.5k, and the dealer had it advertised at $29.5k. I'm guessing it went for no more than $29k. Point is I had a deal done for the other car and needed to move it on.

To be honest I'd pick a second hand car like this clearly looked after by an enthusiast than an unknown stock example that probably was thrashed out of the driveway every day.

Anyway I'm drifting off topic from the R here so I'll end it there.

Congratulations on your wise choice. It certainly looks good in red with the S performance package and sunroof. I'm sure forum members would be interested to know what was your criteria in choosing the S3 over the R, even if it's all been heard before from others.

                  • I can tell you that the S3 is not a good car if you're into drifting.... I tried (on a race track).
The RS4 on the other hand is much better.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

Wow, that is just crazy. So when they say at "speed", so what actual speed were they doing, and who will foot the repair bills? Is that warranty claim or insurance claim?
Ordered - Audi S3 Sedan in Sepang Blue (BW 29)

No pot holes. No excessive speed. 3 passengers. Guys name is Ben.

Makes me very nervous. Especially with the illegal tyres the factory fitted on mine.

Report post 1 week of ownership: 2 longish freeway trips dispatched quietly and comfortably no drone good fuel economy about 7-8l/100kms, xenons spesh at night and interior lighting fabulous, sat nav whilst small screen is working well and choosing good routes, traffic reports enabled and accurate, the odd squirt is occurring with poise and grip happy with the soundalator at 75% can hear Dsg burp much clearer and induction whine, overall very happy with the striking Lapiz Blue and holding off for now on painting the Cadiz which are looking good/classy. No regrets on saving $10k over an S3 (PP)

                                That's a bloody disgrace!

Have you told VW that they sold you a car that doesn't comply with ADRs? I'm astonished that a major car manufacturer could let that through quality control. I would refuse to drive the car until they replace them and I wouldn't be paying for the loner they give you either.
