Concept Super Golf R: should be interesting.. although will be more interesting to see what Guy churns out when he starts work on his 7 R for real world application.
Golf R: I've never minded the Cadiz wheels, but they are definitely more suited to the blues/greys/reds than the white. What I am digging is the tinted tails on the R - these provide better contrast in the design with the cherry tails on the PP (at least that's what I'm seeing in WhiteJames' pics on the GTI v R thread).

With kerb view on the passenger side exterior mirror, this shouldn't really be an issue when reverse parking. I realise this feature is useless when forward parking, but perhaps because of possible damage to the left front wheel, all parallel parking manouveres should be done using reverse. Isn't this how all park pilot systems work anyway?Originally posted by DrK View Postagreed wheels are growing on me too... Will defs be changed at some point though. Machined wheels don't like kerbs at all

Buy White R, sell off standard wheels & Tyres ($2k maybe??) fit these. Wheel dilemma over...
Dropped into Springwood VW today to have a look at the new R. Was definitely underwhelmed initially by its looks. I kept looking at it from different angles hoping something would just make me think: WOW. But nothing. What i did like more than the rest was the rear end. Loved the quads and the dark tinted tail lights.
The car does have a nice ride height though. I think they got that right.
Interior looks too similar to my Highline. Well identical really. The exception being instrument cluster and different ambient lighting & push button start (Do want). But that's fine with me. The interior of the Highline was what sealed the deal when i was contemplating buying ours. I know some wont agree but i do like the seats. Sure, they're not uber aggressive but they are fit for purpose. They felt supportive yet not overly tight ala Evo Recaro's etc.
The other thing i noticed straight away was that the car had a radar, so was fitted with DA, but had no side sensors for park assist 2. Apparently it is not included on the DA package. Probably why it is only $1k now.
Was asked if i wanted to go for a spin but i declined due to lack of time. I think he was keen as it looked very quiet and all the salespeople where just standing around. I must say though, as a plug for Highway Auto VW @ Spingwood, Han Kim (The salesmen who sold us ours) is a genuinely nice guy. It has been nearly a year since we bought ours but he remembered me as soon as i walked in. He is easy to talk to and actually listens to you and waits for you to stop talking. I dislike when salesmen try to talk over you. Just f&*king listen to me, speak when you're spoken to, and say yes when i throw a unreasonable offer at you! hahaha.
So, would i upgrade just because of looks and standard equipment? No. But i am sure after a nice long drive i may change my mind.

Wait until you drive it Godzilla, then you may be reconsidering your initial thoughts
Seriously, the drive is fantastic, deep throaty angry growl when you plant it, dsg burps/farts ++, solid and planted on road, no squeaks/rattles, disagree with White James assessment of ride quality and NVH- far smoother ride than my mk6 GTI on 18's, fantastic value package overall without being boy racer in any way...(eg A45 anyone)

What sort of prices are people getting? There have been two posts on the forum so far of people getting incredible deals (seemingly more than $5k off full price).
I've rung 3 dealers (in Sydney), all of whom can deliver a fully specced R within a fortnight, however the best I've had is halve the dealer delivery from one, free rego and CTP from another, and no discount at all from the third. I'm not approaching them as a tyre kicker either, I have willingly said I will leave a non-refundable deposit over the phone if they can give me a deal I'm happy with.
Are the two who posted amazing prices an anomaly (I note both had previous relationships with the dealer), or am I just crap at bargaining?2010 MY10 Golf R (Sold) - 5 Door, DSG, Rising Blue, Leather, ACC, Satnav, Dynadio, Sunroof, MDI, Electric Seat.
2015 MY16 Golf GTI - 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Grey, Leather, Sunroof, DAP.
