The GTI and R will be virtually identical inside. The only differences will be minor trim, fascias etc; seats and sizing will be the same. The R is unlikely to feel any more special than the GTI.

The A3 and S3 will also be very close, but as Paul has suggested above, check out the seats first. The standard (sports) seats aren't particularly sporty (less so than the Mk6 GTI), but the performance seats do have some decent lateral bolstering that may present issues.

Some good wheels ideas Doc.. I'm biased towards the OZ having fitted them previously, although the ST style is closer to the VWR wheels pictured which also work. I believe these are made by Team Dynamics (pro race 1.2) so there might be some savings there over the VWR branded gear. I was able to source the OZs locally for not much more than a private import from the UK (pm me for details if you ever go that way).

I've ordered an s3 without ever being in one, apart from a specked up a3.
I'm about 6'2 and not the thinnest bloke on this fine land.

My head boarders roof touching, vision is ok but not perfect for vertical. The rear seats when the fronts are forward look unfriendly too.
The audi is tight but reasonably comfortable, the Gti was ok but didn't have the same impression and presence as the s3.


Now the r is about to turn up the only thing that would swing me is if the interior and seating positions were more generous.

Can anyone shine a light about how different the interior proportions are?

Other logical option is to sit in a sauna till it turns up!

I'm 6'6" and ~ 100kg. The golf is plenty roomy

3-Door Golf R Order Mix-Up

I have some breaking news from VWA that someone in head office has ordered the wrong cars and the first shipment of Golf R's which were due on sale on the 12th of April may actually be the 3 door versions.

The promo and press cars that have been running around for the past couple of months plus the handful that have been supplied to dealers are all the 5 door variant, however all the cars that hit the docks last week are 3-door models.





I'm not sure what is going to happen to the cars - they may get put back on the ship and sent to another market, however if you want to get your hands on a 3-door Golf R I'd suggest contacting your local dealer first thing and requesting that they don't load them back on the boat.

I believe the ship that brought these cars is due to sail out on Wednesday, however if enough people place orders on these cars by lunchtime today, we just may be able to get to keep some of these 3-door Golf R's in the country.

The only reason I found out was I had special ordered a Golf R with paint code L40A ERIKAVIOLETT. I received a frantic call from the dealer yesterday saying that the car had landed but when they sighted it there had been a mix-up at the factory and they had supplied a 3 door model and not 5 door.

Plus he said that virtually the entire shipment had been incorrectly ordered

Funny that if this is legit that VWA are thinking they have a boatload of useless product, whereas in reality judging by the demand on this forum they could probably sell the three doors in a day or two.

Righto I've just been advised that all 3-door Golf R's have been re-boarded and will be heading to Singapore.

VWA also said that given the interest in the 3 door model they may look at releasing a special 3 door edition on April 1, 2015.
