    • I'm very pleased with the R ,only done 2.5K's in it . Also pleased with the how much it can carry ,here it is loaded with my speaker project . The front baffles are 1.8m long . It would of been to tight a fit in the Mk6 .After my wife drove the R she's wants to trade here Mk6 Gti . She test drove the new Polo Gti and loved it .

Took a new r for a drive and can confirm no drone on the newer builds. Drone only there in race mode. But I think I heard what you said about the wastegate/turbo. Sounded like a metallic sound when I pressed the accelerator.

However I was fine with it and was about to change my gti pp to the R when the manager of the dealership came out and said the car would be 69k for the my16. Last week was quoted 63-4k drive away. This guy was so arrogant it completely turned me off a day I wanted to cancel my order for the gti too. He basically was saying how the other manager doest work here and he would never sell me the car for that price! I told him why are you jacking up the price now and he went on the offensive.

Went on to say how he knew what he was doing, even though charging me for the optional leather which comes standard on the my16.

Seriously wanted to punch the guy. Completely different from the manager I dealt with last week.

Can I cancel my order with them without losing my deposit?

Depends on what your local state laws are but seriously doubt it - cooling off is usually a three day period only, and even then they have the right to retain an admin component. (Edit: I was referencing your local Vic laws).

Obviously a lot of dealers will still do it as a goodwill gesture, particularly if they won't have dramas selling the car ordered (and I'm sure a PP even with Santiagos will find a buyer), but given the way this dealer is carrying on that may be unlikely.

$69k lol? That's S3 money with options. Low 60s is the market for the R with options, give or take. I'm surprised we don't see cases of VW dealer rage on the news..

I'd have thought the five pot would be the reason the RS3 sounds so sweet.

I think it's fair to say that if engine and exhaust notes are pivotal then look at five and up, a four won't do it.

Even it I lost the 2k deposit I would still be ahead by a few thousand by going to another dealer!
What was stunning was the arrogance of this guy! Especially when he said "I would never sell it to you for that price" and the aggressive body language like hitting the calculator hard with his finger trying to explain the cost and calling me "mate". He even questioned the price I paid for the GTI PP which was far from stellar!

I've met some good people in car sales over the years, but the vast majority are exactly like real estate agents - it's the fallback job when you can't get anything else but don't wanna get your hands dirty. Must have been bullied at school to much, mate.

Good luck in the hunt, if it's the R you want then I would definitely say you will finish ahead elsewhere if you can't speak to someone more mentally stable at the dealership. Name and shame if it falls over.

The VW dealer you're dealing with should be completely ashamed of themselves. Treating customers that way is very short sighted.
Anyway, as per VW build & price configurator, a Golf R dsg (no options) in Victoria is $60,400 d/away. With drive assist it's $61,640 d/away. Drive assist & Sunroof it's $63,550 d/away. Keep in mind, on MY16 leather is now standard and metallic has always been a no-cost option for Golf R. Dealer delivery included in the above prices is $2,500. Yes, I know that individual dealers charge $2,990 for dealer delivery, but that is just to fatten up the initial price before haggling starts.
From what you've been quoted at $69k, it's nearly feasible to forsake the deposit and get what you really want from an honourable dealer. Even try and get a discount, to cover any deposit money lost.
Talk to the dealer principle and by-pass the sales manager and explain your dilemma. Failing that, send an email to John White who is the current Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Australia. He would would be more than interested to hear about your situation and how dealers are behaving. He has tried damn hard to clean this nonsense, especially with service departments. You can also try Ben Hershman who is the GM Group Retail Development at VGA.

Thanks for that! Yeah even the VW website quotes $63,504.47 with all options for the MY16 (taking into account leather as standard). What this guy was trying tell me was that lct was pushing it up to 68-69K (which it does). Going off the website and adding $68,275.57(which what he was quoting) Then when I told him "but isn't leather standard on the MY16?", he had to run in the back then said yeah but 68,275.57 - 3150 (for leather) was still over 65K, i'm not selling it to you at that price.

Guy must of failed maths as he upped the price including lct, then subbed the leather on top of the lct price. This was him punching the calculator trying to make me look like the idiot.

I really hate confrontation like that as I usually don't like to put people down pointing out their mistakes, but this nut-job was complete ****head. Plus it's not like I'm some tyre kicker wasting time as I already put down a more than enough deposit and signed contracts.

They "said" they will call me tomorrow, but I doubt that.

I would keep hounding him, otherwise as you correctly state, they are not going to get back to you.

                        • GoGTI, the LCT is already included in the drive away prices being quoted - what Able is listing sounds right to me dollar wise. So it doesn't even make sense where your 'mate' is pulling his price from.

(I didn't realise the R was listed at 7.1 and copped a little LCT in the first place, assumed it was at 6.9 per S3).

If John White genuinely cares about his dealer network he has a long long way to go - the brand and dealers in particular is tarnished basically nationwide because of the network. Either that or us VWphiles just whinge more.

                          • Dutch77, you are right in your thinking about the dealer network. As VWphiles, I don't think we whinge more than the average. We just want decent and honest service for our hard earned dollars.

If you want to get a sense of irate customers, try the Ford forums with people waiting longer and longer for their new Mustangs. They're not happy.

It would be good to see GoGTI have a positive outcome in his dealings with his 'mate'. With 'mates/friends' like that, who needs enemies?

                            • Thanks for all the support guys! Really appreciate it.

Just a question about the soundaktor, when I drove the car I did find it noisy. If I disabled the soundaktor what kind of difference will it make?

Can't really hear it from YouTube videos. Remember I'm coming from a mk5 GTI which in itself is quite bumpy and noisy.
