Update to my earlier post.
VWA came to the party and replaced the water pump at no charge.
My advice if you are in a similar situation is to do the following:- Be familiar with the "Motor vehicle sales and repairs - An industry guide to the Australian Consumer Law". The most important part is consumer guarantees. It generally trumps warranties.
- Let them tell you what needs repairing.
- Stand your ground. They will not offer to do it for free. You have to ask. You can use words such as 'good will' and 'fit for purpose'.
- Be prepared as they will low ball and negotiate. You need to stand your ground.
Also, Adero would not pursue this case as it is covered by ACL. VWA would have acknowledged this (to Adero I suspect), knowing most customers have no idea of their entitlements or even some basic expectations of a motor vehicle.
All car sales etc have playbooks and they use it to their advantage.Last edited by Andrew D; 10-12-2025, 12:06 PM.
