Haha, thanks for all the responses guys!

I have noticed that the KO3 runs out of steam at around 5000 rpm! It is very annoying! :/..
But at the same time, the car is still pretty insanely fast. Drove a chipped APR Quattro A3, with a carbonio intake.

          The throttle response was AMAZING!!

Imo not so good Audi resale has a lot to do with higher initial price, conservative styling, perceived higher running expenses and most importantly ... less demand in the second hand market. Many buyers of low mileage 3-5 year old Golf GTI/R are about 20-30 y.o. that put less emphasis on prestige & luxury as a purchase decision. Another point would be that not many will spend 40K on a second hand Audi when a GTI can be had new for about 5K more. My 2 cents. Audi A3 2.0l Quattro with KO3 still has the older version EA113 motor afaik.
            Cheers.

See, from what I have found.. a 2nd hand audi is around $23k!
And a GTI is about $26k! It is the opposite!?

So this is what confuses me!

Agree ... but good deals can be had on the higher version second-hand Audi S3 with all the good bits, esp. when comparing against second-hand or new Golf GTI and Golf R. Wouldn't suprise me that in a year or so, the Golf R second-hand fetches better resale and a faster sale than the equivalent Audi S3. Volkswagen image = cool. Audi image = conservative. A bit like a Ford Falcon XR6/8 and Ford Fairmont or Holden SS -v- Berlina for an Austarlian equivalent.
                Cheers.

Id say a lot of punters haven't even heard of the S3 let alone know its on par with a Golf R. Audi as mentioned is considered a conservative brand in Australia.
Seems vag are content to have it that way and sell volume through the vw brand.

As i said in another post, you buy Audis at Audi/BMW prices, sell next time at VW prices like my car wholesaler mate said. Same applies to Lexus - buy at Lexus/Mercedes Benz prices, sell next time at Toyota prices. Lexus/Audi are still considered inferior in the second hand car market to BMW/Mercedes from what the industry people say. Doesn't mean they are bad cars though, they just lack brand cachet compared to the traditional big two German marques.

Depends on what year Audi you have. Mine is a 2008 MY09 with the newer motor (chain driven) which is the same as the MK6 GTi.

Having driven a FWD car for nearly 3 yrs, I can safely say that the Quattro system is ALOT better than driving a car with FWD, from standstill to coming out of a round-a-bout, the Quattro just grips.

That was when I was a self indulgent weiner and may still well be. WHich is why I might just get an Audi next.
