Call me paranoid but doesn't petrol usually have some detrimental effects on paintwork?

I remember told (years ago) to religiously wash off any petrol that might have spilled on the paintwork when you pull the nozzle out, and as careful/gentle as I have been, it still manages to drip a few drops when I pull the err nozzle out. ooh err missus.

    Anyway...

I would expect there may be some residual petrol on the tip of the cap? No?

I find that it puts scratches onto the duco of the flap over time, so avoid doing so. I just gingerly let the the cap hang off the lanyard.

        a) jiggle your nozzle a bit more in the hole.

        b) no, never had any issues with residual fuel on the filler cap. Fuel level is generally below half & doesn't slosh up onto the cap.

        c) haven't had any issues with the cap leaving micro-scratches in the paintwork either.

Yep, the manual suggests putting it to the outside too.

+1 to all of that. I've also got Ventureshield (Duco, as triode12 mentions), but have not yet noticed any scratches... but I'm too very careful on placement.

So this is one area where the MkVI is a big improvement over the V. The VI's mirrors fold much further inward, and the folding action is actually useful! (IMO!)

              You stay classy Doggie.

Back on topic, I rotate the nozzle 180 degrees (so, pointing upward) as soon as I remove it from the filler. (It's not always possible, depending on the type of filler hose etc, but usually isn't difficult.) As the nozzle is then pointing upward, it doesn't matter how thorough (or not) you've been with jiggling, it won't drip.

I think this post is a personal record for me on the innuendo front.

                Sorry

It didn't start off that way (the innuendo I mean).. but it's just one of those things.. you talk yourself into a corner and by the time you realize it..

Interesting bit about rotating the nozzle. Gotta give that a try next time I am at the station.

Careful..you might be hauled away by the Police for doing that in public (i.e. at the station)...

Yeah, but if you do it when you car is locked you can't make a quick getaway.

It's our job as buyers to get the best deal/value for our dollar, and it's VW's job to makes as much money as it can per car - it's called doing buisness.
Having both a MK5 and MK6 you can notice the subtle changes. If you had no experience with the MK5 youd be none the wiser.

I've personally owned a MKV and currently own a MK6. Also, my brother has a MKV Golf GT. They both have their pluses and minuses

To be fair Corey you broke your Mark V after a few months by parking it under a bus

I once drove one of the company cars (executive Commodore) which had this feature. I had no trouble opening the flap but I must've locked the car while filling, and spent a good minute or two wondering how to close the flap, before giving up and driving off with it slightly ajar (after paying, of course) =)

When I watched the AskAVWSalesGuy video when interested in the Golf I had the "aha" moment, as Portal 2 developers describe it

There was a TGUK segment where JC was having issues figuring out how to open the fuel cover of a new Lambo - eventually resorting to reading the manual.

I don't find it particularly intituitive to have to push the cover to open it. I would imagine a lot of people who loan their MkVI Golfs to friends/relatives unfamiliar with this would eventually get a call from them asking how to open it.

Either a lock on the flap, an internal release button or perhaps a embossed sign saying 'push here to open' would much more user friendly.
