Even if it were that simple VW would not mess with a safety system because of liability. There is most likely a change to the revision of the ABS controller, possibly a change to the wiring of the button, probably changes to the ECU and possibly even other systems involved.Originally posted by Mariani View PostSurely it should be a simple process of just tweaking the ECU?website: www.my-gti.com

It was written somewhere on this forum. I just asked what exactly the MY12 changes were (I was more worried LED tails had been added!), as I had heard BT and MDI were now standard fit. The dealer confirmed the BT and MDI, and that ACC was dropped from the lower Golf models... was not too sure if there was any other changes. Didn't offer to refund me the difference... But I guess that is fair enough, my car is built and on the water!Originally posted by SChan View PostIs bluetooth & mdi standard on my2012 gti??? Where did you get this info from ? I can only guess VWA is "respecifying" the cars due to the strong AUD. This may not be a world wide MY12 change. One of the Ads in today's paper has BT and MDI standard on Golf Wagons. Probably also why they can afford to do driveway until June 30...Now - MY17 Passat 206TSI Wagon - Tungsten Silver | Sunroof

Our new Golf wagon came from the factory with BT and MDI - Jan 2011 build. It was technically an option, but very easily negotiated to be thrown in for "free" with the deal on offer. Before anyone says anything, I know nothing gets included for free. Maybe they are all being built with it now anyway - they probably should as evey other car we looked at had these features standard. Most of these were cheaper to buy too.2007 MKV TDI Golf Hatch

Someone who is going to buy a Hyundai is not going to turn around and buy a VW because of bluetooth and iTurd connectivity. The majority of people don't use either feature so including them as standard is not going to make VW more competitive nor attract any more customers.Originally posted by kane View PostPossibly or they realise they have to be competitive and much cheaper cars come with bluetooth and iPod connectivity as standard

It is if they want those things and are prepared to spend extra to buy the VW in the first place, but dont want to fork out several hundred more for what is pretty basic these days.Originally posted by Maverick View PostSomeone who is going to buy a Hyundai is not going to turn around and buy a VW because of bluetooth and iTurd connectivity. To suggest that the majority of people do not use BT is pretty stupid. It should either be compulsory on all new cars or be made illegal to use your phone at all whilst driving - BT or not.2007 MKV TDI Golf Hatch

The comment I responded to was that it's standard on much cheaper cars and they are doing it to be competitive. A Hyundai purchaser is buying that car because it's cheap and they are not going to be swayed to a brand like VW because of included bluetooth and iturd connectivity.Originally posted by TDI DSG View PostIt is if they want those things and are prepared to spend extra to buy the VW in the first place, but dont want to fork out several hundred more for what is pretty basic these days.
The majority of people do not use bluetooth, that's a fact not stupid. Why should it be compulsory on all new cars or be made illegal to use? I agree.. I don't have nor want BT.. I don't like talking to people in the car.. however on the flipside BT should be a standard offering in a car at this pricepointOriginally posted by Maverick View PostThe majority of people do not use bluetooth, that's a fact not stupid. I think that is the point... if you are VWA, and you face competition from similarly priced cars coming with standard BT (and I have read reviews that make specific comment that the Golf is a bit light on for standard gear... especially BT at the price point), and you are able to now spec the car with it as standard now that the AUD is higher, while maintaining the car's RRP (thus, not devaluing the cars already sold by dropping the RRP in response to the AUD and other competitors either dropping prices / increasing gear), it's an easy call to make!Originally posted by SilvrFoxX View PostI agree.. Having said all that... has anyone else had it confirmed that the new Spec has BT & MDI standard? I only got it from one dealer, who was told by someone in head office... not sure there was anything in print! Now - MY17 Passat 206TSI Wagon - Tungsten Silver | Sunroof

Scratch that... another dealer just confirmed that BT and MDI are standard for MY12. Apparently a service bulletin came out this week, confirming the changes. No other changes for the GTI were listed.Originally posted by chopper View PostHaving said all that... has anyone else had it confirmed that the new Spec has BT & MDI standard? Definately missed the point of my post.
And bluetooth should be there by law. As standard on all cars takes the tempation out of using your handset full stop.
Before you say no one uses its I would see at least 10 people a day using their phone whilst driving.

Totally agree. It's the point I was making earlier, but apparently the majority of people dont use it ......Originally posted by kane View PostDefinately missed the point of my post.

I dont think I know anyone that does not have either an aftermarket or factory fitted hands free of some description - its a safety issue if you want to be able to make or receive calls on the road. I agree not everyone will use it, but they would be in the minority.
As for MDI its gots nothing to do with Apple. It's a USB connection for music - the same as most others supply standard. The iphone cable is an option to add to the MDI option if you want it - which I dont.2007 MKV TDI Golf Hatch
