Would love to have the rear camera and/or OPS but the installation seemed far from easy. If Pepe can do it in under 12 hours without screwing anything up then I will be quite tempted to do it myself. Either that or I could drive from Melbourne to Sydney and spend $1800 :p
Hey Ryan_R. I've little knowledge of the physical hardware differences between the revisions of the RNS510, however, I saw on a AskaVWSalesGuy video that the ability to display RVC and OPS together came with a firmware update to the RNS510.
Now, this doesn't mean that you don't also need a certain revision of RNS510 or that there is some contingency with retrofitting, but I thought the information may be useful.

Not having the RVC fitted when I ordered my car is one of the small regrets I have.

However I cannot be stuffed having the car pulled apart to retro fit the cabling etc.

RVC is one of the things I like most about my car, apart from the detroits and awesomeness of a 6 speed manual 2.0L turbo. I don't know how I will ever go back to parallel parking without it. Good luck on the retrofit.

The RNS 510 has one video input for a RVC camera. The RCD 510 does not unless the car was ordered with a RVC.

OPS information for display on the RNS and RCD headunits is over CAN bus so no video input is required.

And yes a retrofit can have both OPS and RVC.

Yeah, I've since read a few more articles on the subject of inputs/cabling up the RVC.
I merely said it would be handy, ofc I know it would never actually happen.

to retrofit RVC onto golf from all the website DIY instruction it wasn't clear whether those are LHD or RHD website - so my question is which side do we have to run the loom cable that connects the RVC to the head unit at the front, is it easier to do from our driver side or our passenger side?

I belive you travel down the side of the vehicle which has the fuse box (which is usually the drivers side).

Anyway, last I'll say on that part of the thread... back to the original topic:

My bits and bobs for this and my 9W7 are sitting in out at Mascot and weren't delivered yesterday so another week before I can fit them... grrrr.

                      Awesome Pep,

Please just don't forget to let me know how you went about it and whether it was easy or not. After all, that is the question I asked in my OP

Rather than split off all the off-topic posts into another thread, I decided since that topic had already hi-jacked other threads before, that I'll just delete them. Thus there has also been 1 or 2 posts that I've had to edit to remove the content that was off-topic and leave the on-topic content there.

We can now go back to discussing the topic of Retrofit of RVC to MK6 Golf with VW OPS

Got my RVC delivered today, A$609 from feeBay. then I realised when buying bits required to construct the wiring loom to connect to reverse light and boot lock relay, I realise ECS Tuning has the same unit (camera + loom to RNS) on their e-shop as well and can be bought all for US$650 delivered including the bits n bobs... so I've overpaid by about US$150 because of getting them from 2 separate places... damn. (the camera + loom itself is about US$430 if ordered from ECS Tuning)

Camera was delivered from Lithuania, looks new with plastic protector on the badge but funnily was described as 'used' on the fedex delivery docket? I'm gonna be asking the seller what's the go with it... seller is from UK but apparently getting his/her stuff from Lithuania, I reckon probably the same source of the one selling RNS refurbished unit out of Lithuania?

I wouldn't be surprised if the 'used' comment is to encourage Customs not to charge you any import fees.

What loom are you talking about? I've not seen reference to it anywhere in all my searching and can't find it on ECS. Would save a bunch of hassle if there's already a pre-existing one.
