  • Retrofit of RVC to MK6 Golf

Well guys, found this on ebay.

VW Rear View / Reversing Camera Golf Mk5 Mk6 Scirocco - eBay, Volkswagen, Car Parts, Vehicle Parts Accessories. (end time 14-Oct-10 06:38:47 AEDST)

It says make an offer. If I was able to get it cheap, would it be worth it? I have checked out one other guy who sells the OEM set up for around $600, however HE has stated that it is not possible to install the RVC to a golf with VW OPS.

When I asked him about this, he said that you cannot have the OPS and RVC image on at once, and he has never seen it done. However this cannot be true, I have driven an R with OPS AND RVC and the OPS overlays on the RVC image.

Is he wrong? how could he not know that VW sell the RVC and OPs TOGETHER in their vehicles? Is it just a simple VAGCOM update thing might be required? Or an update of RNS510 Firmware? or is it too risky for me to even try and get one?

    -Dan

EDIT:- Here is the listing for the OEM part which states in red down the bottom, that RVC is NOT compatible with VW OPS OEM VW GOLF V VI BADGE REAR VIEW CAMERA RVC RNS510 | eBay

    VAGCOM cures all

I'll be putting one of these into my R this weekend or next, if it doesn't work then from my level of profanity you'll know... however, I'm pretty sure it will.

      Awesome Pepe,

Make sure you let us know, and If you can be arsed, a little guide as to how it is done, then I will certainly go for one, cuz I am loving it for wank factor, but couldn't go the cam as it shot my golf's price over the magical LCT

      Thanks bud.

LOL. Looking at the images, running the video cable back to the head unit seems like a fair bit of work in itself! Not sure I could be bothered doing that after doing stereo installs a few times.

I wasn't going to bother... then I found a decentish guide for the Mk5, so I figured it can't be that much different for the Mk6. Got quoted $1800 to fit one here in Sydney, F that! Figured with parts and a day to spare, I could probably get the RVC and 9W7 in at once and save myself a bucket. The camera unit is bloody heavy though... going to need a Stage 1 tune just to lug that around

I'm a bit of a hack so interior bits never seem to fit back the same way hehe. I'll never do it, but curious to see the guide if its a URL. Definately worthwhile if you're adding 2 items you couldn't get at delivery.

Regarding the 'can't fit RVC and OPS together':

I know the Golf is capable of doing it together (have seen plenty of videos to support that). My only guess was that retrofitted RNS510s didn't have enough inputs to support both. Perhaps an additional adapter is needed.

Would love to have the rear camera and/or OPS but the installation seemed far from easy. If Pepe can do it in under 12 hours without screwing anything up then I will be quite tempted to do it myself. Either that or I could drive from Melbourne to Sydney and spend $1800 :p

Optimistic given I nearly chopped off 2 fingers installing my S2TPP paddles lol But that was my own stupid fault...

My bits and bobs haven't shipped from the US yet, so I won't be doing the install this weekend... hopefully next.

Hehe, the paddles wouldn't be too useful without fingers.

Hope it all goes well next weekend.
