I got the camera from here and the kit is excellent:

As for your radio, what do you currently have?

If it is an RCD510 it *might* have the video in connector, if you have the RNS510 it does.

    Check out this page here:

Not all RCD510's have connector #6 which you need. I vaguely recall reading that all new RCD units have the connector but I can't confirm that. Best to check to be sure... it's all of one trim piece and four screws if you want to look.

A 2nd hand RCD-510 is $350 - $600 and there is usually a few around. The RNS-510 is about $900 - $2,000 on eBay. They even have them for 999.00 EUR on carsystems at the moment just watch out for the maps.
    Hi,

Great thanks for the reply.... Ok, might be a dumb question but how do I know if I got a rns510 or rcd510? What's difference? D

    • RNS = Radio & Navigation System (ie is a GPS, DVD player, 30gb HDD, etc)).

RCD is just the standard touch screen CD player found in the Golf GTI, etc

      • Umm, RNS=radio & navigation system, you should know if you have a nav unit!
edit: oops, was reading emails while typing reply, beaten to the punch

        • RCD-310 = Basic CD/Radio and is the stock option in most cases:

RCD-510 = Colour touch screen Radio + CD Player and is the basic upgraded audio system:

          RNS-510 = Colour touch screen + CD/DVD player + Navigation:

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

          • Now we just need to post videos showing each in operation and I reckon we've nailed this Q

...but is not fitted to GTIs or Rs in Australia. For those cars, the RCD-510 is standard fitment.

RCD and RNS look very similar; easiest way to tell them apart at a glance is the RCD has three buttons either side of the screen, while the RNS has four.

You know I never looked at that line item until now, but yep, there you go Interestingly the RCD-510 is not even listed as an option in the Cabriolet, it's RCD-310 as standard or upgrade to RNS-510 only.

                • Ok, thanks... So, I have the RCN510 - it seems this may be an issue to install the RVC......

                  • Why is it an issue? The rns definitely has the video input (I installed this camera on my rns), but the rcd may have an input or may not.
Edit: oops, you have muffed the unit type you have, with both N and C in the name...I saw the N at first glance and assumed rns.

                    • Has anyone ordered from car systems.pl? Are they genuine vw parts? Their prices are pretty competitive!

                        • That where I got my stuff too, shipping was great and all the parts look factory genuine.

Yep, rear camera from them. But watch out for exchange rate, 300eur+ shipping hit my bank account about $500 hit, wish Aussie dollar was on par with Euro

                            • I was checking the RVC and the R LEDs lights. They seem to be heaps cheap!!

                              • Hi Guys,

Thinking of biting the bullet and purchasing the RVC for my MK6 GTI, only issue is that I'm not too confident in ripping up my interior trim nor do I have the vagcom tool required. Would anyone be willing to lend me some of their time and help install the RVC, will be more than happy to compensate for your time.

                                Thanks guys.
