Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • No you have me all wrong, the tune is fine and the engine does not run hot.. all turbos don't like hot weather. The R is no different and even stock it feels like you are driving through treacle. Air con pinches performance as well so it feels a little doughy.

My post was more of a reference to the ridiculously hot weather we are experiencing than anything to do with the tune. I would recommend to anyone thinking of a tune to go do it, the Recode tune is a cracker, I cant speak to the comparison to any of the other tunes, but Recode tunes are pretty good

    • A tuned car will run hotter when it is pushed. Bit of safety in most cars so generally no issue

      Still, ****e happens

Larger IC, improved intake airflow, IC sprayers can all help.

Did on my Subie. Especially dealing with heatsoak

        • Thanks for the reassurance guys, I'll go back to my just patiently waiting slumber now. Silverfox, I thought I had you pegged as a shire boy until I checked your location. There's an imaculate RB being driven round here by a middle aged gent (like me) with grey hair and a beard I think. Maybe there are two silverfoxes?

Was down at the smash repairs getting something from the car and there were two others in for repairs

One a RB with silver 18s and the other a CW with black 19s

The RB had a massive dent in front passengers door and the CW had a smashed in front.

              Not nice

Made mine seem like a brush with a feather duster.
My R was in a fight yesterday. Some dude failed to notice that I had stopped and came hurtling up from behind, pushing me into the car in front. Not happy. But I have to say, they are tough little jiggers. In the end, they probably have to replace the rear bumper, the grill and the one of the headlights (only because the top mounting brackets are both broken. The bonnet is slightly kinked but they'll probably be able to work that out of it. Surprisingly little damage considering the force at which he hit me.

Hopefully go into repair next week.

I think there's some sort of rule amongst other drivers to see how many Golf R's they can smash into...

I'm surprised nobody has already asked, so how did the little R go?

                  • Observation for today

Withdrawal symptoms from giving up smoking are pitifully insignificant compared to what I am experiencing from my R being at the smash repairs.

                    • You could play a little game called 'go to another VW dealer and test-drive a Golf' (or something else)

                      • Silverfoxx. You went Recode? nice.

                        My observation:

The best way to increase the performance of your Golf R is to go away on Holidays for 10 days and get a Suzuki Swift hire car.

Get back in the R and you have a rocket.

I can tell you without a doubt that if the others were applying any decent amount of throttle, the R will be nowhere.

Last day at Sandown had 10+ lambos. From half a straight away they'll reel you in and pass you like you're not moving and they're not even driving that hard. From memory their top speeds on the straights were an easy 60-70km/h higher than the R. In such a short distance, that is a huge difference.

                          • You can only fit one dead body in the Lambo's boot though - fail

                            • It doesn't need to store them though, it chews up whole entities and spits them out as a glorious note and fumes

What, don't tell me you are trying to stay off the smokes while waiting for your car to be given back. That's a double whammy of withdrawal symtoms. One at a time man, one at a time. At least you'll get to enjoy one of your addictions again soon. Hehehe!
