Good to see after 2 DSG's and two mechatronics replacements you are still positive about them. Many consumers would not be so forgiving.
Why not.. the DSG is the future, new technology is going to be problematic ( just look at any microsoft product) VW stand behind their product in name of innovation and progress so if it glitches they are there to give you another one.
I think Subaru are still running the same gearboxes from over a decade ago..

My Subie was crap really. Only thing I liked was the boxer engine.
They are so far behind in equipment, technology, refinement and build quality.
Styling, that has always been rubbish except perhaps the last model Liberty
So that's probably why Subaru has one of the highest retained values of all makes in Australia (and higher than VW) and also has a high degree of customer loyalty. lol

Some people are just stupid eh (suckered in by advertising and brand) ....
The buying profiles of Subaru customers are well known and not difficult to understand why your comments apply to them.
I was one of those customers, would never go back based on what they are doing to the brand, moreso in current models.
I have to agree with Candyman, I too was a Suabru lover, they were a cut above Oz models in features, tech and quality and the benchmark for all the Jap models. Over the last decade they have dropped the ball in all aspects. Their primary target is the US market and with the recent partial purchase by Toyota their models are getting more bloated and designed for the masses.
They are slowly turning the corner but until they start investing in competitive technology especially in their design and gearboxes I fear the competition will continue to keep ahead

The wife has a previous gen Liberty GT , I've got the R. The Liberty is a nice place to be, the interior quality is better than the R. The Liberty has had excellent reliability, but is heavy on the fuel.
Subaru have definitely dropped the ball with the styling, interior quality, technology more recently. The current Liberty - horrible!

Which is why I stayed with VW (well, that and the offer of the R)
The DSG scares some off but I love it. Definately get an extended warranty though although VW are pretty good at goodwill repairs after warranty on this item.
