I always thought the XR5 competed against the GTI, and the RS Focus was compared to the Golf R. I once followed an XR5 down the Reefton Spur and had no problems keeping up (different conditions, driver, and all that jazz, though).

Does this by extension make a stock XR5 quicker than a Ferrari F430? Of course not.....
There are lots of variables in these things, and no one knows truly what they except for the driver of each of those cars (and even then, they might not be aware of all the variables)

Given a can't see the vid, was he close by coming onto the straight? Maybe ran a **** line out of the last turn onto the straight as well losing speed overall. Curious to know top speed before turn 1 as well Big Dave, if you managed to read it?

XR5 driver may nailed the last corner and got it perfect whereas Dave may have been baulked by a slower car etc etcAudi S3. Sold

Last week at Sandown, Fab (who ran 106mph?) would pull away from me on the straights and that was with him not going really hard given I was able to get back near him under brakes and cornering.
If an XR5 is nearly 10mph down on a stage 2 R, something is wrong....or maybe it's accurate and the product is more marketing fluff than substance.....

A couple of questions then.
What is different between the GTi motor & the R donk? I see the compression is slightly more and heard something about a steel timing chain??? Is the bottom end the same?
Also has anyone been able to log the torque split with the haldex unit thru various situations? I read somewhere it can split up to 100% rear which is goodPity there is no manual overide to lock in what you want, but anyway...What ratio is straight line for instance at a constant 100km for example.
Also regarding oil changes has anyone bothered to do a 6 monthly change themselves?

It's all to the front if there's no slip detected/no output from the stability control, that's how I understand it.

Not quite zero to the rear. Cut from the Wiki:
The XWD system can transmit 100 percent of available torque to either the front or rear wheels. However, for those conditions to occur one end of the vehicle would have to lose all traction, like driving on ice for instance. During a standing start the rear wheels are put to use, without the need for any slip to occur. Then under straight-line cruising conditions, to conserve fuel and driveline wear, the torque split to the rear wheels is reduced to a level between 5 and 10 percent. Also up to 85 percent of torque can be transferred by the eLSD between to any single rear wheel if necessary. The system can adjust torque splits based on calculated conditions, such as those that indicate an aggressive lane change manoeuvre, to effectively reduce oversteer or understeer without any wheel slip occurring.
