Golf R Observations and Questions

Sorry to wade into this, especially as it's a bit off topic. Only thing I'd add to this is that I'd only refer to an R as lethargic when comparing it to what are - and let's be honest here - some of the most incredibly responsive cars on the market. The off-idle response you get from modern, small low-blow turbo cars like the Polo and Golf GTI was unheard of in an artificially aspirated car a decade ago. Compare an R to your typical turbo car, or even plenty of contemporary NA cars, and it's anything from excellent to a revelation.

Yeah - you're very right AdamD. When the MKV Golf GTI came out, it basically redefined "turbo responsiveness" overnight. Every TV or magazine review praised it's practically NA like characteristics.

OMG how was Sandown boys! Had a blast and was great catching up with Dave and Fab (once again). Once the rain started to trickle it was very tough trying to stay with the Golf R's out of the bends, they just slingshot out whilst I am trickling the throttle on with wheelspin in 3rd and sometime 4th gear!
Was interesting to see that my vintage MkV was neck and neck with Dave on the straights yet Fab had that extra 20 odd kw's which had him pulling away with ease. Hopefully I can get my siht together and post up some video footage soon from in my car which shows Fab slingshot out of those wet corners.

Fab nearly had one lined up for the day, he would have loved it. By the way, winton track days are a lot cheaper Ryan so dont let the money put u off, u got to do it mate.. monet well spent

Disappointed - I think the sight of Adzy flying down the straight and passing some of those exotic cars with the bicycle on the roof-racks would be just gold.

How are your brakes and tyres after the event?

This is the second track day they have done and they are now white lol and just a bit of meat left yet. The tyres held up awesome and didn't go off even after a number of hot laps unlike the Conti's which used to de-laminate and turn to goo after just 2 laps.

I just couldnt bring myself to braking too late, especially in those conditions.

Well finally got to spend some time with the R just going over the manuals, MFD config and finally a wash.. damn that protective stuff they use leaves a residue all over the windows.. I have hit it with all sorts of cleaner and it is still there. The paintwork also needs a full detail, there isn't a skeric of wax or synthetic on it.. what do you get for your dealer delivery fee..?

The wheels are quite fiddly as is the front spoiler.. I think I am going to need some type of cleaner for all that piano black, it spots easily.
Now to go give some consideration to some accessories ...

That is awesome Adzy - went full screen with it and it's like sitting in the back of your car as you herb around the track - albeit, with a nice cold beer!
