Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

LOL but I'm with him on this one. I've only seen 3 R's out on public roads in total. 5dr silver twice and a blue. Haven't seen any 3dr's let alone multiple colours.

What I have seen since picking up my R is every VW driver (Polo/Golf/Passat/Toerag) has been a 40yo+ lady lol. So if I ever feel the need to find a cougar, I should be right

    • I've seen quite a fe Mk6 Golfs, most of them GTIs, but never seen an R on the roads (so far only at DoVW).
That said, I've yet to see another one with the beige interior like mine
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

      • So far I've seen:

3 x candy white with black talladegas (one fitted with roof racks)
2 x rising blue with silver talladegas (one parked in my apartment)
1 x united grey with silver talladegas and
1 x full darth vader styled one (my test drive car @ Barloworld Bayside - Serge would be able to confirm this).

Not surprised to see even more after the new year!!!

        • I see them all the time now actually... a lot of RBs, although still haven't seen another RB with Black wheels like mine yet... seen a few Grey ones, they look good One or two black and white ones too.

Had a run up Ryde Road with another RB on my way home from work last week... clearly, he was in a manual

          • There is one car I have seen in RB up at fitness first carpark, in my area there are some R's around since the launch, all white and united grey. Have not seen a light silver one yet.

I don't think they could even possibly be common like rexies. For starters, VW couldn't supply the sheer numbers for that i reckon. It'll be more STI type numbers.

You can also fall into the trap of thinking your short visual survey in conclusive. In that case, I see more GTIs than commodores. But that's a good thing as it sells cause it's damn good

Really? In Melbourne if I close my eyes and throw a rock it'll hit a Commodore.

              • I've seen quite a few Rs on the road. Mostly RB, followed by white and a couple of greys. The majority I've seen have had 18" wheels (where I can work it out) and of those on 19s, only a couple have been black.

Still see a heap more GTIs than Rs, of course.

Boot Liner – I went to grab the genuine VW boot liner from the dealer. With the R boot being shallower it does not fit. Has anyone had any success with getting a rubber\foam style boot line that fits the R?
I'm still waiting for my dealer to get my rubber boot liner in, I will let you know how it fits when it arrives.

Add one more black with 19's to that list if you are around the upper north shore or work in Nth Sydney. Picked mine up today and to date have only seen 4 others on the road. 1 RB with silver, 1 Black with 19" silver, 1 UG with black and 1 White with black. Definitely see plenty of GTis including 4 or 5 in the parking station I use each day.

                      • I just picked up my R this arvo.

                        Its awesome!

I have a rising blue manual with 19" Black wheels. The ride is fine without the optional ACC. So pretty happy.

I have just attached my number plates and checked out all the sat nav screens. Generally playing with my new toy...

Does anyone know how the tyre pressure sensors work? i cant seem to find anything in the MFD.

                        • It doesn't tell you what the tyre pressures are. It tells you when it starts dropping in one of the tyres. It does this via a warning light. It's detailed in the manual.

                          Congrats on your new car.

I have still not seen one R yet on the road down my way. Only heard of some people with them in Melbourne and one in Warrnambool so far that are in my driving vicinity.

Yeah Nice one, congrats man go nuts! I am really liking it too. I thought I might be underwhelmed due to the massive wait and expectations that built up, but for what its worth over some of the competitors, and compared to some other cars I have had etc.. It just feels so much more special.

LOL true that. But I see a ****load of GTI's around here. Never knew I worked with so many VW fans though. Have had people come track me down in the office to talk about the R. One of the older guys who has had a Kombi since, new loved it!

The bloody polo kept lighting it up but pressures were fine, hasn't done it for a week or 2 now. Do you know if you can use VCDS to show any more specific info ?

As per the GTI vs R thread, came across a Focus RS last night while doing a random drive. They might be a great performance car but cruising next to me all I saw and heard was ugly cheap looking focus. And the green is ralph worthy. Look at a Golf 90TSI and apart from the wheels, it still doesn't look like a plastic encrusted crapbox. Tried to get the guy to have some in gear runs etc but he wasn't interested. Got to some lights when I was behind him and he takes off. So I followed (acceleration seemed equal) and get along side then he isn't interested again. Scaredy cat
