Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Thanks for all the advice guys.
All very valid points for and against.
I have decided to leave it the way it is.
I was just a little bothered by the ride height.
Regardless, its going to stay the way it was intended by VW.

    • One of my mate's colleague ordered an R on novated lease but was not given a firm delivery date. As "compensation" for the wait VW gave him a Golf 90TSI to drive in the meantime. Is this possible? Or am I missing something?

As for the engineers perfecting.. its not necessarily perfect to FAB, and it is a compromise of comfort and performance from the factory. Always is with production spec. I dont think stiffening lowering the ride a little will affect much. I had a car lowered 2 inches and had no problems for the life of ownership.
Yeah cheers bro I was quiete happy with the time. That time was done on totally screwed Conti's too (30 laps of Sandown), I should do a run on the Re070's now as I think there is a tenth or two in it still and yes it is a DSG... of course

            • The US are set to get the Golf R:

              Ok folks...

              - two-door and four-door
              - six-speed manual transmission only
              - colors to be announced later
              - all cars have the top sport seats from GTI with leather standard on all models
              - climatronic is standard on all models
              - xenons standard on all models
              - so there will be two trim levels, base and higher-spec. Higher spec comes with navigation, sunroof, Kessy and Dynaudio

Colors and pricing will be announced later. We expect pricing to start below $34k.
At least it has a man peddle.
It bucks the trend of making everything very basic (see the new jetta with rear drum brakes for the USDM)

Pics of the seats as standard:

The ride height looks good mate.

Agree leave it as it is, especially since you have ACC!

I'm also interested by the idea of Lowered springs with the ACC system but don't know how it would work out seriously and there are always side affects with some mods.

                        • I've still only seen ONE single R on the roads. Lol. So not sure how common they'd be, even if there was only a single colour option!

You need to get out more often Corey - stop watching this forum so much.

I have seen at least a dozen since Aug/Sept in all colours.

Either way it is still a good look and half the people would have chose 18" or silver wheels.

Best not to worry about trying to be unique, as soon as one other person has the same thing it won't be anyway.

I have only seen a handful of them on the roads but know they will fairly common like WRX's before too long. Still doesn't mean you won't enjoy it, but not exactly a limited run.

                              • I see the same RB with black wheels quite often on Guildford Road heading out of town in the mornings. Saw it again turning onto Beaufort St yesterday arvo on the way out of the physio. Was a much more pleasant experience than what I'd just been through
