Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I reckon it will be less than $250 (based on my calculations above) if it requires any discount at all.
This is not the alternate method! This is how the spreadsheet is supposed to be used!.

As you wrote in your previous post, there is no way for any spreadsheet to calculate the costs for formulas not publically available (e.g. VIC registration based on post code, NSW CTP based on numerous factors). So prospective owners should be using this to figure it out themselves.

If they don't do it themselves, you are correct, we can only approximate based on the information available (which is what the VW pricing site does btw). But as I said in the previous post. Even in this case, the spreadsheet still makes that task far easier.

    • Hey Guys, I didn't put down the deposit today. I re-specced and got a couple more quotes, and also drove a manual and a DSG back to back.

My preferred dealer is now come to a price for the 3DR Manual R with Nav+Dynaudio Upgrade, Roof, Leather, 19"Talladega's (Black), MDI, Adaptive Chassis, and My11 Bluetooth (which I had the demo of today, and wow fantastic!).

This spec is being offered to me at $59,500. It seems like a solid price as I rang other dealers and they are adamant that they cannot push lower than $67 with that spec (clearly a b/sh*t call). I checked on the spreadsheet and it looks like a nearly %15 Discount off the RRP. I take it this is a good deal? I'm planning to place the order this weekend so I do not have to wait any longer.

      Cheers,

      -Danny

      • Certainly seems a fair enough price to me Danny. especially with those specs.

Can i ask what made you opt for the Manual over the DSG?

Hey Prodigy. Today I drove an R DSG and an R Manual Back to back. As much as I ADORED the DSG and the Launch control and all that, I really found that it was the manual that made me smile, maybe it was the feel of the off/on power from a conventional clutch, I don't know. It really was a fun car to drive. It was so characterful. Just a great steer with the involvement of the manual, and what can I say, I'm a bit of a purist like that (coming from an angry, rorty, little Renault). That and the fact that the DSG costs significantly more, it impressed me a lot (and no doubt is the quicker car off the mark due to the twin clutch), but it didnt give me that seat of the pants rush and smile on the face that the manny did. I guess it was due to the acceleration being so linear with no break in power. Oh it was good. But like I said, that manual made me smile. A lot. And I got all the options I wanted for the price I cannot say no to.

I'm wrapped with this site. Had it not been for you guys at VW Watercooled, I'd never have been able to walk in there with the knowledge that has ultimately garnered me what I hope is a great deal.

            • That's exactly the same conclusion i came to, Danny!

I ordered my R to enjoy it, and whilst low numbers are generally better, they don't always result in more enjoyment

Yeah, look it may be something I will always have to justify to the DSG crew. but you can't put a price on driver involvement

                  • Wasn't too hard selling my 6MT R32, just need the right buyer to come along (there were a few but the right price will dictate it first).

I wouldn't count on that... we've seen people change minor things a week or so before their build date and find themselves bumped from the production schedule. Whether it was because of their change or another reason is hard to know... but to be safe, don't leave it until the week before

                          • Hahaha Yeah same here!

I do, however have every Faith in German Engineering (Although a Certain 07' BMW X5 of ours has had its fair share of issues since the date of purchase), and I can't see a friday build being all to horrid, though the germans do enjoy a good ole chug of the amber stuff (so I have heard).

Funny story, I've had a German built Fiesta that had a few issues, The Bimmer is Mum's and that has had a few issues, and the only car that hasn't had any issues is the French built clio? and I thought they were built by mime artists....

                            • So my car has reached "Checkpoint 8 Handover to Sales" which is step 15 of the 27 step VW process. I'm not 100% sure if "Checkpoint 8" is the exact step where the details become available, but I've now got my VIN and Engine number!

At the time the car went into production, it wasn't available, and even a week ago it wasn't available... but it is now
