Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The GTI had it overseas and several local reviewers mentioned it here, yet it was never installed on any Australian delivered GTI. I'm wondering about the R. Has anyone confirmed it's actually there?
No noise pipe - on the "high HP" FSI motor with the relocated DV up the front, there is no port for the "noise pipe" - The US never received a high HP FSI motor (Scirocco, S3, ED30, Golf R etc...)

    • There were rumors of an electronic noise enhancer, has this also been ruled out 100%?

I have not heard of one, nor seen any factual stuff (unless it's a flap that changes intake / exhaust noise - which sort of already exists!)- I hope VW are not that vain - just open up the exhausts & intakes a bit!

What about the GTI with the 888 engine - does it have one?

Certainly not on the Australian models - that's for sure!

              • It may seem a strange request but are there any simple mods to reduce the noise of the Golf R.

My daughter is very unhappy that I wake her each morning when I leave for work and that her whole room vibrates whenever I reverse into the drive.

                  Probably only 3 options:

1: sell it and buy a Prius (and don't replace it with a GT3 - that's for sure!)
2: park it away from the house
3: sound proof your garage / daughters room

tough one, I'm sure there will be plenty of forum members that will surely help you dispose of it!

                    4. Buy daughter a set of earplugs.

                    • There's a process where a 2 part expanding foam is used to spray under floorboards to give heat and sound insulation.
I could give you some names of companies in western sydney, but can't really help with VIC.

Might be worth ringing some roof insulation companies?
Otherwise you could try Urethane wholesalers, as they will supply the chemicals and equipment to the contractors.

Guessing she is young and might not understand now but just tell her that you're getting her back in advance for all the late nights she'll be keeping you awake in the future...

Disturbing her sleep while you go to work: the gaul of you. Poor Princess.
Give me a decade, poke fun back at me...twice over.

Er that'll only decrease the noise INSIDE the car.
Think the problem is exterior noise..

I'm referring to applying the insulation to the house itself... (in the ceiling, under the floorboards etc)
                                Not to the car
