Golf R Observations and Questions

Anyone had an update recently? I got told prodution week 40 but I've been comparing "handover to production dates" etc so not sure how it relates.

Jan delivery is looking more likely. Gotta be a bad practical joke, how long does it take to build and deliver a ****ing car? Wish other manufacturers would release something worth buying, I've had enough!

I was under the impression that now most of our cars were in the 'Frozen' period that our delivery dates shouldn't change too much but it sound's like this could be incorrect. Waiting until January for me is going to be an impossibility.

Hopefully some of the dealers that frequent the forum can give us some info on any recent developments.

Yeah, this is the problem. VW's customer base is growing larger than they can grow production! If other manufacturers were pulling their own weight, then things would be fine! lol
VW said that they weren't going to underestimate the MK6 manufacturing... and then they went and won every award possible around the world and ended up exceeding their estimates AGAIN!

Yeah i know it's not the dealers fault and that they are the ones that take the brunt of our frustration but i meant more in relation to whether there is going to be any further delays that will push delivery into the new year.

My R still hasn't been allocated a build date and the order was placed on July 6!!! My dealer mentioned that delivery will most likely be in January at the earliest

Anyone would think we're all ordering custom Bentley's!

As I mentioned in the "The official I have ordered/received my new MKVI thread", I ordered my R on the 13th of August for a Jan delivery, dealer told me yesterday not to expect delivery until April. Too much demand for the R wordwide = difficulty getting a production slot

The R is also sloted for sale into the US market soon as they are spruking hte R at auto events there so demand will shoot up even more in the near future.

I had to wait 4 months for my car and it was painful.
Can't imagine how you guys can wait for 6 months +

And my car was a week 36 build according to the NADCON printout. Does that mean its a 2010 built but a 2011 complied golf R? does that mean I will get keyless go if it comes with it for the MY11 golfs?

The "MYXX" just implies what actual model, specs you will get.

You can have an MY11, being built in 2010, or 2011 (The "build" just refers to manufacturing dates - not the specs or model TYPE.)

Complied is when the car got here and was "complied" with our road rules/car spec regulations.

All good except no 3 door DSG and equiv spec means options that I need to try and sell my arse to pay for. I've thought of every possible car upto 80k which would suit and there isn't one.

I probably would have taken a GTI ~12mths ago had I known this would happen.

I've started thinking about other options just in case mine gets delayed anymore, have looked at the new STi but would probably go for a BMW 1 series coupe.

I really want my R though..

As I have unfortunately said before, me too. If I get delayed anymore than the early DEC delivery i might very well be out. Its just been a wait since June (even earlier when it was for a GTI) and now the buzz has almost died and Im wondering If I have other things I could spend $60 hard ones on.. like a house!

But, If it comes in the newly stated time, im in!

But, anymore "just a couple of months more" and Im getting an old 350z/S2000, saving $30K and Im done with it!!

But yes I would love my R for sure.

I waited from Jan-June and it was murder, but shyte its a damn good car!!!

you should all have got the GTI! At least then WJ's ongoing expert opinion won't tire you so much!

well it's raining up here so am going out for a drive in my "worse than GTI" car

Spoke to my dealer yesterday and my car which was originally supposed to be build week 40 then changed to build week 37 is THROUGH PRODUCTION He reckons I may even get it late November. I put my deposit down in Feb this year so its been a long wait. Finally some light at the end of the tunnel.
