Yeah it is, but for some reason it's built in batches (unlike the other models). So I would presume it's because it's an AWD chassis or something.
Yep, pretty much
I happend to be in Wolfsburg last month and part of the factory tour was to see the MK6 and Golf Plus production Line.
There were definitely standard Golf's, R's and GTI's for that matter all being built at the same time. I was paying paarticular attention to that part as i had heard numerous times that they batch built certain models. The Brake Calipers were the giveaway. Unfortunately no cameras were allowed so didnt get a pic of it.
Well - they're still built in batches, so maybe it's for "country allocation". Either way, the next batch of Golf R orders for Australia is week 37... that's a long way from the week 23 when the R went on sale and many of us point in our orders!
That'd have been awesome to take the tour though! I'd love to do that.... especially to follow my own car through the production line! hehe
I know I'm sick of waiting but I wonder how many people are thinking of grabbing a Focus RS now that a limited run is coming? I think they're been well specified and priced but after a previous experience with Ford, I'll never buy one of their products ever again.
Hmm maybe that is why I hardly used them on the test drive? Not sure if I'd bother changing them though.
Personally wouldnt buy a ford. As a massive rev head I never got myself to buy an XR6 turbo which honestly made amazing power standard, and could be tuned skyline/supra style to make massive power. But it was Ford. And Im sorry to those that love Ford, or Holden for that matter.
I had the displeasure of owning a brand new Holden SS ute - Aussie cars are craply built TBH. I know, mine got sold after 3000km's due to engine problems (burning oil, gearbox leaking oil and everything in the interior stuffing from the wiper buttons to the air con knobs falling out - If my dad didnt know the dealer principal in Sydney I would have gone to court over it.
Also, My friend had an XR6 turbo and It was one of the quickest cars I had been in when he had finished with it, but even he could not bear the terrible build quality with things such as the gaps between the doors/body and stiching on the seats etc..
On to the Golf R, the R is AWD. I would not want a high performance car that is FWD due to when I would tune it, the power would be lost in tyre smoke. Also the Golf's are a German car, and built like it. Lastly the resale, quality and performance as a combination cannot be matched by the Ford to me.
If I thought otherwise for a sec, i would go and lose my $500 deposit and buy one in a heart beat.
Ford Focus RS.
You guys should probably start another thread on this, rather than discussing it here.
They are $60k + onroads though. Being that they are strickly limited to 315 and there is only a single spec, I doubt there'd be discounts. By the time you add LCT etc, they're like $12k more than the 3 door Golf R. You'd have to really the RS over the VW to give up all the reasons you're buying a VW over one of the other competitors which were already available offering a similar style of car to the RS.
Well my Golf R is $60400 + onroads/LCT etc. And I didnt get no Leather, Sunroof or Recaros.. So I dont know about them being more than an R at all TBH let alone $12K! I mean looking at yours, mine and Dave's spec alone we have optioned up a rrp of close to $70K on road.
But I do believe Ford give fantastic discounts, and this along with the sheer number of base models sold affects perceived value. Hence the resale value.
Just a question, how many Golfs R's in the MY11 shape will be sold? I have no idea how limited that (315) actually is. Is a given year of R32 or R selling in the thousands in Aus?

Sounds similar to my last XR6T. Had 4 replacement tailshaft assembly's fitted along with diff bushes yet somehow it was "my fault". Yeah sure ****heads. If it wasn't a company car, it would have been driven through Ford HQ.

Sure you got your prices right? A 5dr DSG with no options is gonna be WELL under 60k
Yeah i am saying that the Focus is a car that you can buy as Is for $60K rrp right? Without much choice in options. But the Golf's customers being a market that places more value on luxury and refinement/options, You just dont get that many stock GOLF's going out the door, especially the GTI/R's.
The base model GTI 3 door in manual, sure you can get it for $38990 + ORC etc.. but honestly (as Im sure many can attest) by the time your done.. my GTI I had ordered for instance (before settling on an R), in DSG 3DR cost nearly $58000 on road with all my options dynaudio, bluetooth, DCC, etc.
You dont have those sort of options on a Focus is what i meant.
Its like buying a BMW, they might be $80K rrp for a 325CI, but wait till you hit the options book. They are not an $80K car. More like $100K+..
More Specifically, i remember someone I knew was going to buy a BMW 330 convertable in the 2006 models brand new.. they stickered for $106K. On road.. $132K.. massive difference and it was not all LCT.. nor was it an 'individual' or anything fancy ass either..

Reason: Specifically
yeah I know but so far nearly all here have gotten discounts in the single digits, perceantge wise. And then you have to consider the fact that Ford will definitely give bigger discounts. So its not really much point comparing the discount amounts etc.. But yeah when Corey suggested
$12K difference for a Golf R with a Focus RS, I dont think so, because of all the stuff i mentioned above.
If you got the seats, a few other things etc you could clear $70K.. For example a Golf R with all the options i chose, just add the Recaros seats.. $75,666.51 on road. thats without sunroof or electronic seats as well.
PS That figue is using the Price Calculator..
You cant make an RS over $70K on road before discount.. Where as you can get a Golf up to near $80K on road..

I think that's way too much, sure the figures are right? What options are you going for?

Why not bring on both? lol
Oh by the way Dave, just an update that I ended up going with the white hehe
Golf R
Candy White / 5 Door / DSG / Adaptive Chassis Control / Black 19" Talldega's / Sunroof / Recaro's / RNS510 + Dynaudio / MDI

Not sre what the exact system is, but there were a combination of R, GTI, LHD,RHD 3dr, 5 dr all lined up one after the other.
The Tour was good, well worth it, would be nice to live in Europe and be one of the 100 or so people that pick up their new cars from the factory each day and drive them home.
Also did their Tiguan Off road course for a laugh. Seems to be fairly capable thing for what they had lined up for it anyway.
