Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Word of warning, you may want to watch the location of the shift cables after you fit the dump of choice, some are simply too close due to their ill thought-out design and the gap is even less after the fitment of a SS kit. The shift cables are pretty badly held in position where they exit/enter the firewall and they're easily moved if your not careful. One totally stock R with DSG in Sydney has had an engine bay fire due to this.
This is something we always look at now and if we can't move it we make the owner aware of the potential issue so they can either fab up some sort of bracket or at the very least fit some sort of heat-shielding. Even if it doesn't catch on fire the inner core low friction material around the cable core can melt. I aint an issue on the TXS pipes of course because we ran into this issue ages ago on one of the trial cars and re-did the whole top section before their release.

By SS do you mean short shifter? I don't see how a kit could lessen the gap you're talking about. The example you gave was for a DSG, so I'm a bit confused by your post.Click or tap --> MY13 CW Golf R | Manual | ACC (deleted) | 19" Black Talladegas (sold) | Satnav-Dynaudio

Both the DSG and 6mt are manual boxes at heart and with the 6mt the short shift cable tends to push it the wrong way - toward the dump . You'll see what I mean

Yep my 42DD downpipe rubs on the cables. Im keeping a close eye on them incase of damage due to the heat/pressure etc. My old Scorpion downpipe had about 2cm clearance but the 42DD downpipe doesn't bend as tightly after it exits the turbo and therefore hits the shifter cables.
No issues at this point in time but im keeing a close eye on it.

Golf R Observations and Questions
^ im hearing you. I had to park in a very busy/full shopping centre on the weekend, and its a challenge manouvering around the tight up/down ramps and in/out of tight parking spaces with the reduced steering lock.

It's embarrassing reverse parking and misjudging every time! Like I'm driving a Cadillac or something...Click or tap --> MY13 CW Golf R | Manual | ACC (deleted) | 19" Black Talladegas (sold) | Satnav-Dynaudio

Observation 1: after I turn the car off a small hum can be heard from the front of the car. It usually lasts a few minutes. Is it something to do with oil continuing to be pumped through the turbo to aid cooling? It sounds like an electric motor.
Observation 2: the analogue oil temperature gauge does not coincide with the temperature displayed on the MFD, at least for the first few minutes after you start the car from cold. I've noticed the analogue gauge climbs quite quickly to normal operating temperature (about 90 degrees), however the MFD indicated oil temp is only 55-60 degrees. To be safe I wait until the MFD oil temp matches the analogue display before giving the car full beansLast edited by nickows; 12-12-2012, 03:44 PM.
