Is that dsg slightly slipping? It sounds like every time it changes a gear (except 1st to 2nd) the revs go up a bit before coming down, like a manual with clutch slip where it initially slips but manages to grab.

Guy - yes that was with 98 octane fuel.

*somebody* got so excited driving the car that they forgot to press start on the Go Pro, so sadly no in-car footage from the Golf

I did grab a couple of shaky iPhone videos of the launch from the spectator point though - love the way it just hooks up and goes, no fuss or wheel spin at all.

James, great results - was this on 98 Ron fuel too? - Those numbers would back up easily with what we are seeing in full street trim with production parts.

Will grab some video off the Go Pros once I get a chance today.

Have just been through the PerformanceBox stats. Best run for the Golf R was a 3.9s 0-100kph, 12.1s @ 185kph for the 1/4 mile, 21.95s for the 1000m.

The runway is on a slight incline and we had 30-40kph headwinds so the brick-like aerodynamics probably didn't do much for those speeds either, so there might be an extra tenth in there somewhere.

The car itself obviously has the APR Stage 3 kit, but no modifications to suspension, brakes, wheels, tyres etc - we didn't even take out the back seats. Absolutely thrilled with the outcome.

I observed today that a Stage 3 Golf R is quicker down a standing kilometre than a stock LP550-2 Gallardo, Ferrari 458 Italia and Pagani Zonda S.

The Golf was down about 15-20kph at the 1000m mark compared to the big boys but the way the DSG launches gave enough time advantage to pip the exotics.

Welcome! Took me about 2 weeks to go through everything but hey... at your own pace no pressure!! LOL

I admit after reading through I don't come on here quite as often these days. Loving my Golf but coming here just makes me want to spend more money on it when I'm meant to be cutting back!

I did that. It took quite a while

This thread is pretty quiet these days. I guess the excitement of initial ownership has faded for many and some would have moved on to something else for now.

But for us that are new to the R club, well, it's still exciting

I tried it tonight on the way home from the gym with my APR Stage 1 tuned R and it worked exactly as Guy_H says. I'd never noticed...

Its a simple enough fix if you don't want it, most tuning companies can disable that function but i guess at least you know what it is now

It was more just a surprise,I was pushing the throttle harder and going nowhere and thinking all I wanted to do was give the guy some brake light, not fully brake test him at over 110km/hr... it really did take me by surprise when I began slowing unexpectedly with foot on throttle (mashing it to the floor to try to speed up) and foot now *off* the brake... it makes you wonder if some of these "my VW rapidly slowed" are where people just managed to press both pedals. It is completely unexpected that once you take your foot off the brake that it doesn't all go back to normal!

Just lucky for me a guy in the middle lane was trapped and wanting to join the fast lane, so the twit behind me perhaps assumed I was slowing to let the car in rather than being a complete d#ck to him (despite him being one to me, could see him doing hand gestures before all that, and I gave the "wtf can I do,i am stuck like you are behind slower cars, hang on a minute"...once he got passed us (by doing about 140km/hr cutting on the slow lane across Brooklyn Bridge) he proceeded to sit inches off the next lot of cars bumpers also...by this time there were trucks all over the place and other twits doing 105 in the fast lane, so he wasn't getting very far except threatening everyone he was behind.
