It's the new software. Holds gears longer and won't shift into 7th until 70 km/h. And wait until the first time she goes down a steep hill

The service records show that the MegaTronic have been replaced about 6 months ago so I thought this would be a good buy !

The 2nd shuddering could be really bad at times....and it seems to be getting worse.....each day I use it. The good thing is that is only restricted to 2nd gear in automatic and not in manual mode or other gears. Only happens when the car get warm and the going gets heavy...( traffic jams, slopes, slowly creepy drive off )....if it is not for the super comfy ride, great fuel economy and super performance of this Passat B6...I would have screamed ! The perks keeps the lid on !

Gonna get Volkswagen to get the clutch pack replaced asap
Great to see you pop up here Jimmy. Make sure you get the software update as well. That changes the shift points and the car is much smoother for it (no more 1-2 gear hesitation)

      • Dropped the car this morning with Bill Buckle in Brookvale for the "shudder" check. I got told they need to run some diagnostic tests and I can get the car back in the arvo.

Just got a call from the rep. asking if they could do the clutch replacement today. Just like this. Will pick up the car tomorrow and report back.

        cheers

        • Mine has developed this annoying 2nd shudder since last month and now I have this shudder plus the bloody noisy eek sound when pushing the gas pedal. Time to dealer I guess....

          • Just got back from a trip up to the Hunter Valley. Its the first time I've driven it properly since the clutches were replaced as the car is my wife's daily drive. All I can say is what a difference! Apart from no shudder, there is now no appreciable lag on initial take off. The gears change at better intervals than before, you don't find yourself bogged down in 6th gear at 40kph anymore. I thought this might affect fuel consumption, but we did around 500 kms for just under 1/2 tank and expected range screen was still showing 350 kms to fill up.

Very impressed with it again now, its how the transmission should have been from day 1.

              • Has anyone ever had a loud metallic rattle from a cold/rested start being diagnosed as a faulty clutch-pack?

VW are ordering me a new clutch pack for deal with the 2nd gear shuddering problem and are insisting the cold start issue is also being caused by the clutch pack..

                • Never heard anything like that on my car

                  • I'm fairly certain the noise is completely unrelated.

After having the engine mounts tightened to no effect the service centre is now claiming both noises (dsg shudder and start rattle) are coming from the clutch pack. I get a feeling i wont be driving my poor little tsi over christmas

Heard the metallic rattle a couple of times after stops when the handbrake wasn't engaged before placing the shifter into P. Seemed to be emanating from transmission.

                      • I got my clutch pack replaced a couple of months ago to get rid of the shudder, gear shifts have been smooth since. But I do still experience the loud metallic rattle from cold start. It's hard to demonstrate the rattle since it is intermittent and only when the engine is cold. I'll probably record the noise one morning and show it to the service guys.

                        • I had my clutch pack replaced last week as well. Shifting is better and the shudder is gone....but when I have the windows down and in stop-and-go traffic I can hear the transmission shifting and I have a "clunck" noise and I get some rough shifting. Not sure if the transmission needs to adapt after the clutch pack replacement and that noise will go away after a while.

                            • AAAAHHHHHH,

Now today I got up the hill and I got some loud tic, tic, tic noises and a big puff of black smoke coming out the exhaust.

Called VW and booked the car in for next week.

Anyone had this before. I think CrimDub had something similar a few pages back in this tread.

                              Thanks

                              • 3rd time in for the shudder... diagnostics now sent to VWA (apparently it was backwards and forwards all day, Perth techs talking to Sydney etc) waiting to hear the result.. Seriously over having to go back AGAIN

Oh and joy (heavy sarcasm) to hear the suprecharger squeak is back.
