The Official Mk6 Golf DSG Clutch / Shudder / Squeal Issues Thread

Brought my vehicle in for 60K sevice at VW Sutherland today. They picked up the DSG shudder problem (w/o me reporting it). The mechanic working on my vehicle said he noticed the take off was rather harsh. Nick just called and told me they have ordered a new set of clutch pads that would be here about 4 weeks. I am to bring the car back and they would replace them. How good a service is that? I am aware of the problem but it is so intermittent that I was not sure how to report this. Apart from this the car is absolutely a joy to drive.__________________________________________________ _____________

You'll make a few people jealous with that ease of service

Took my 77TSI in for its 30,000 service and the mechanic came for a drive with me and luckily it actually did the shudder this time. The order has been placed for the clutch kit but unfortunately it's on back order and could be quite a while, at least a month coming in. Had the service done - the usual checks, oil, brake line flush and software upgrade ($650). They added a washer/spacer to the turbo unit which apparently is a mandatory recall on this model (no difference noticed).
I started driving home and switched the aircon on and the compressor doesn't cut in. The exact same thing happened after last service and it seems that when a software upgrade is performed, it causes some issue. Last time I had to wait another hour while they completely reinstalled the software to fix this problem. I did advise them at this service and to assure that it worked before my collection - but obviously not. This time they only had to disconnect/reconnect the battery and it fixed the problem.
Makes me wonder how I'll go when I eventually get the clutch done.Last edited by Artie; 22-06-2012, 09:14 AM.

Artie, don't be surprised if you get your parts earlier. I was told about 4 weeks but today had message from vw that clutch kit has arrived and to make appointment to take car in. Unfortunately The earliest they could do it is 10 July and car needs to be in for 2 days. Hope your kit will come in soon too.__________________________________________________ _____________

Mine's booked in a few days earlier, no mention of how long (I assume within one day, otherwise I'll have the courtesy car overnight I guess).

Update on the clutch and "tick noise".
Turns out I will get a complete new clutch (after clutch pack and mechatronic replacement did nothing). The "tick" noise is probably the result of the faulty clutch being in the wrong gear and under load (eg. going uphill) produced this tick noise. I am currently waiting for the clutch to arrive and to get this replaced. Hope this will fix my DSG problems.2009 | 90TSI DSG | CW

It's mainly just early DSG7 gearboxes at this stage, not seen or heard any issues with the newer ones.

I don't think my 118 wanted to leave me. Started it up on Saturday to trade it on the GTI and it didn't initially select reverse gear. Then on the drive over to the dealers the D light was flashing on the MFD all the way. Gear change quality was terrible. Even turning the ignition off and on to reset ECU didn't help. Guessing it may have been an electrical glitch or a mechatronics. As much as I love the 118 I'm more confident of the GTI.sigpic

Awww, maybe a good thing it didn't sell privately, give the dealers plenty of time to resolve any issues before they try to sell it (maybe get a friend to try and test drive it later to see if it's improved if you're not too busy enjoying the GTI).
I hate to say this but I feel I must, besides one or two trips my car has been pretty faultless (relative to before) since the dealer had my car for diagnosis (clutch pack hasn't arrived yet). I know they've done something to the ECU since APR is gone, perhaps also a DSG reset. Ideally I'd like to be able to put APR back on now to compare and make sure that it isn't any part of the problem, but there's only a week to go so I'll keep on waiting).

Don't get me wrong I'd never put the 118 down, the GTI just feels different somehow.sigpic

It'll be nice to hear/see more of your comparisons as you go. Will you be tuning this one as well?
