Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Saw that video. **** the euro car guy comes across as a stubborn tool.

      His logic just defies belief.

Gives us euro fans a bad name

      • Thought journos would have compared the BMW 125i sedan -v- Golf GTI. Here's the BMW - v- Merc comparison on drive.com.au:

Autocar.co.uk: Golf GTI -v- Focus ST

Golf 7 GTI smacks the Ford Focus ST real hard ... that's the GTI in Power-Pack + DCC form ... kills Focus for steering feel & steering directness, composure, ride, handling and power/acceleration on par with the Focus ST. You can read it on iPad Zinio Magazines.

          Cheers.

            • Stronger Conrods

The EA888 in the MK7 Golf GTI receives an entirely new engine head with exhaust port cooling and stronger conrods to cope with the 350Nm. Haldex LSD on PP Golf GTI gives it some more purpose according to 'The Correspodent':

              • Finally this thread can be put to rest. We can now all be at peace with one another.
Ray finally pulled the pin and traded his R32 in for a Golf R 5dr DSG almost fully optioned demo.

                  • Being in the Sutherland Shire ... ^ ... you could be most convenient to deal with. Early days ... But Haldex Controller, set of H&R adjustable sway bars and possibly even a tune could be in order. Ray says that his Golf R as noticeable lag low down, is more quiet to drive and rides more comfortably than the previous R32. No DCC on Ray's R, but he has the fancy black 19" wheels that may be an issue with rubbing ... H&R sway bars may help this if it's a problem, in addition to dialing out some of the factory understeer so prevalent with the stock Golf R chassis.

                      • It's getting a bit too close to the release of the Mark 7 Golf variants: GTD, GTI, GTI-PP and R in addition to the Audi A3/S3 ... not to mention the BRZ and FT86 for me. Mark 6 is a foregone conclusion. Ray's R32 was coming up to 6 years old and showing signs of age. My GTI is coming up to 3.5 years old, have to wait and see. I have never had to top up the oil in my GTI between services and never had any issues with the GTI thus far.

                        • No need to argue any more. As it turned out, V and VI are both fairly forgettable cars, regardless of R or GTI flavour. Sorry, they're gonna be remembered for their DSG issues.
It looks like VII will be a winner and who knows, might turn to be a future classic like the properly looking IV. Here's hope...

                            • I was talking about the Golf generations and not in particular about the high performance versions. Do you really think that any Joe Blogs would know these details? Six or seven speed DSG, recalled or not? The stain lingers for a long time, just ask Fiat and Skoda

What do you guys think is the most memorable thing about MK6? Is it R's shedding of cylinders? The GTI losing its black underwear?
