  • Yeah - I don't like Dunlops either... I just wouldn't be replacing an average tyre (Dunlolp) with another average tyre (Bridgestone), when there are great tyres for good prices around (i.e. The Eagle F1 Asymmetric for the Golf's are less than the Bridgestones...)

    • Pot luck on VW's as others have said, although we got the Eagle F1 Asym's on the Tig 147 18" rims a few months ago and I can't say anything bad about them so far.

          • The black headlights on the 19s option looks awesome. Kinda kicking myself I didn't come across this before ordering my R.

For what it's worth specs are as follows:

            Candy White 3 Door
            Standard 18s
            DSG
            Sunroof
Leather (Vienna... not Recaro's unfortunately - couldn't justify it)
            MDI.

Ride felt great without ACC so didn't order it.
My only regret... not taking the 19s to get the headlights (if only I had known).

            I think I got a pretty good price. - $57K drive-away.
            Delivery around Jan 2011.

They also threw in mats, slimline weather shields, front side tints, "paint-leather-vinyl-fabric protective coating".

            Cheers.

Hey mate, you should ring your dealer and see if you can change it. My cars due November with December delivery and I got stopped being able to make any changes about 1/2 weeks ago.

Your car coming slightly later, might give you the right time frame to make a last change.

It's a great buy at 1300 bucks for 19's with rubber probably worth that alone - and you get the headlights.

See how you go, and good deal you got

              • ... as I understand it, 19" rims will give a firmer ride (for better or worse), which may necessitate ACC?

                • VW recommends ACC for 19s, but as it's not standard, you can do without. There's threads on here with discussions about whether it's worth it (I firmly believe it is), but the TG UK article hot hatch shootout preferred the R without it, compared to a Scirocco R with ACC.

I've got the 19s and ACC, 90% of the time I leave it in comfort for driving around the city and even still, it's pretty firm and I'm always having to be very alert for pot-holes.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what headlights do you get with the 19s?

You get the black headlight casing rather than the silver.

These are the pics I took of my car with dark lights next to one with the standard lights

                        • In relation to ACC. For all these people who go out with a non-ACC car on a 15 minute test drive on 18" or 19" wheels and think that the drive is "fine" or "comfortable enough" or whatever, you're missing some of the point of ACC!

For peoples who go out in the ACC car and put it in "normal" and think that is comfortable enough and so order without ACC, you're DEFINITELY missing the point!

The ACC doesn't just "adjust the dampening of the car to 3 different "comfort" levels". It dynamically adjusts the suspension properties 1000 times per second whilst using 3 different "comfort" profiles.

One of the big things with ACC is its ability to control body roll. It's not as noticable with the R as it is say with a Passat CC diesel. I had one of them as a courtesy car for a day, and me and two of my mates took it out for lunch. We flew around a "suggested 40kph" corner at at 80kph and were shocked at the complete lack of body roll even in "Comfort mode" on the ACC. Since doing that I've had a go of a non-ACC Passat CC, and although I wasn't able to test on the same corner, there is noticably more body roll in it.

Anyway, my point is that, "ACC in normal" is NOT the same as not having ACC.

My biggest regret regarding my car is that i didn't drive a car fitted with ACC before placing my order.

On happier note, my car gets handed over to production in 3 days time.

What weeks do these dates match upto? I think I saw someone mention that vw's weeks are a little off what a normal calendar shows?
