Should I drop the DYNAUDIO and SAT NAV and go the seats? But damn Ive always wanted sat nav.. Maybe go a 2 door, no Dynaudio and foot the rest. hmmm...

hectic seats. What do you guys reckon they would be worth to get the front 2 after market?

You can easily fit SAT NAV and/or aftermarket audio later.. If you want to buy the seats later they'd cost a fortune. The RNS510 can be had for about $1100 - 2k from ebay, 2nd hand/refurbished or from Europe..

It's a bit hard with options working out which give you more for your money, but i think the seats would make the car. I don't think i'd personally get the leather ones, it would be the standard ones or recaros..

It is only 3k in it... when you are spending 60k on the car... the more you have the easier to sell later on

That's true it can make the car easier to sell but you still don't get much/any of the money back on options/mods when you sell.

Depends what options the person buying the car values.. ie I'd probably prefer the recaros than a sunroof + 19" wheels ..

If you want those seats, get them WITH the car. If you had already optioned leather, then it's really only an extra $2,730 (in NSW, after taxes, but before discount %). There is no way in hell you'd be able to obtain any style of quality front seats for that much aftermarket. Sure... if you weren't optioning leather already, then they add a huge $7,235 to the price of your car (again, in NSW)....

Maybe because they don't want to worry about the mecha-fail-tronic unit breaking as has happened in a lot of other DSG equipped VW's.

Also, if i was buying a car that was built for driver enjoyment, i would actually want to retain full control over a car rather than only having control over the go and stop component.
Sure DSG has sports mode and flapy paddles but why not go a manual then if you are going to be manually changing gears anyway?

Barloworld Menton had a white R two door with recaros and black wheels last week. not sure if it is still there. If you are not 6 foot and 95+ Kg the Recaros are great. I have std leather in my R and these seats are still a little tight for me so could have gone the Recaro's anyway. they do look great. A bugger to get in and out of but comfortable when you are in them.

There aren't that many failures vs number of DSG cars, and almost all are replaced under warranty.

I's a hard choice these days as the manual box isn't anything special imo, and DSG is faster and more efficient (ie manual drivers wouldn't drop it into 6th as often).

Manual in traffic wears out pretty quick too so both have their advantages. The GTI is the first DSG car i've had and like the crisp changes and fart sound, but still has that element of elastic band feel when you step on it (ie changes up 2 gears and sports mode revs up too high). Downshifts are much better and less awkward than manual though.

Not sure but may be harder to sell a manual too, but there will be buyers of each.

I agree with this (except the elastic band statement where G-rig just needs to refer to the manual ). I've driven manuals most of my life, and I'll always take a manual over an automatic or CVT etc. But give me a DSG any day! Especially of the higher quality wet clutch variety


Btw G-rig. The reason it changes down 2 gears when you step on it is because you've put your foot all the way to the floor and hit the "kick down switch". If you don't quite put the foot all the way to the floor, it'll maintain the gear you're in and accelerate from there. I'm positive this was covered in my MKV GTI owners manual, but I haven't seen the MK6 owners manual yet

Obviously written by someone who has never driven the DSG and has no idea on how they work.
If you think you have more control by driving a manual, then that's up to you, but the DSG will actually change gears faster and smoother via the paddles than you'll ever achieve in a manual, and will hold whatever gear you want up to the redline (at least in S mode).

Sports mode seems good for going in between traffic etc just not when planting your foot as it sounds like you're revving it way too high. As you say if you're gentle with the throttle it's not too bad.

I think we've beaten the DSG vs. manual topic to death in about 30 different threads. Personal preference at the end of the day. I like having my left foot doing something, and the enjoyment out of manually shifting gears with a proper stick, and will most likely always drive manual (yes, I have taken the DSG out numerous times...I don't hate it, I just like a proper manual more). You like the fast response of the DSG and the control you get with it. Agree to disagree.

As the standard seats include airbags, i'm pretty sure it will be illegal to swap them for the Recaros later.

gonna test the manual and dsg later today... will be good to see the difference... i've driven many manual cars before, but not one by VW... if i choose to keep my pirelli, i would go with manual... if i don't keep it, i think i might go dsg again, as currently driving the dsg pirelli, i don't miss driving manual really.
