Yeah I'm fine with all the items you mentioned but its more about the comfort. My lower back is fairly average from a couple car accidents so if I'm in an uncomfortable seat for too long it gets a bit painful. I had no issues in the standard leather seats for nearly 45mins.

I'm in the same situation as you then, but not due to a car accident. For me, the standard seats in the GTI/R, once adjusted correctly, are awesome. I can sit on them with a single 10 minute stop between Sydney and Brisbane and get out of the car and still feel relatively fresh (enough to go for a ride on my road bicycle). The motorsports seats I couldn't get that adjustability to be comfortable for an hour....

So make sure you do take the time to both look at them, and spend a few hours in them (even if it's just sitting in a dealer lot whilst reading a book or something, lol)

Yeah but I've never see them in an R32 either so doesn't help. Funny thing is, rang Barloworld in Glen Waverley and spoke to a "John" who insisted
a) there were no R's in the country with race seats
b) they are customer order only
Yet their partner dealer in Bayside has delivered at least one R with the seats LOL.

There is nothing worse than an arrogent salesperson who lacks the ability to simply admit they're not sure. How hard would it have been to say sorry we don't have any here?

I did not have any issue with sliding around on my test drive around yarra boulevard (Melbourne people will understand).

They let you take it there for a test drive!? I only drove there in my own ride but I had no trouble with my leather seats up there

I can sit in a car for ages if the adjustabilty is there, driven melb-syd non stop (except for fuel) plenty of times. We'll find out, car hasn't gone into build yet that I know of so still possible to add stuff in but not looking good for their quoted aug/sep delivery time....

Had a quick lookover of the Grey one at Slaven this morning (obviously locked up so outside only), geez they look alright. Those Recaro's look freakin awsome. Almost glad they aren't available in the GTI becuase I heard they are very good and quite comfortable but would be a little ordinary on longer trips

yeah neither did I to be honest. I thought they were awesome!! If I could of gotten over the hump cash wise - definitely would have gone it.

In the GTI interior, its the one place I honestly believe it does not matter whether you went the leather or not, because the Standard issue looks and feels great! I loved the way it looked.

But in the stock R, I don't like the interior as much as the stock GTI, so the leather or sports Recaro's would be awesome - and ofcourse - ITS LEATHER!!!

Why did you order the fiscon crap when you could get the factory one?

At least it has a warranty. Every single fiscon kit we have ever had fitted has had problems. Never again.

I was considering buying a Golf R yesterday because i felt it might let me feel more physics and stuff than my current golf at track days but whilst sitting at Barloworld being jerked around by the sales staff for 4 1\2 hours, I remembered back to a dyno day recently and recall some stage 2+ 8p Audi s3's making around 176 kw at the wheels, with : full turbo back exhaust, Autotech fuel pump, intake, FMIC. and a few other bits n pieces and the appropriate tune for all the above.
Which is a fair whack of power at the fly wheel considering power loss through the haldex. pretty good for a small turbo like a k04.

At the same dyno day i saw a guys Pirelli and another mk 5 Gti which i had'nt seen before pull out 198 kw and 208 kw at the wheels....... WTF.. given they both weigh over 120 kg less than the R and have over 25 KW at the wheels more than the R, correct me if i'm wrong but theyre going to suck the doors off my R at phillip island due to power to weight ratio and power loss through drivetrain, even if i go through the whole, intake, exhaust, fuel, tune blah.
Obviously with AWD ill get off the start line quickly but what about the mid corner battle. for $69,800 Au out the door is the R going to be competitive as a track car ?
against the likes of these others, or is it just a waste of money.?
That guys pirelli with 198 kw at the wheels, seriously thats more power at the wheels than a b7 Audi RS4, much more. and a power to weight ratio that destroys it.

There's no doubting its a sexy car sitting on black 19s, it looks dead sexy, but is it going to be a track weapon.

I've merged both your threads into the R thread so we don't have 100 threads all on the same car.

The MKV GTI Pirelli has a very similar engine to the R, although running different compression (from memory). It was 169kw by default and a stage I ecu takes it up to 229kw.
The R has 188 (or 200 if we're not in Australia) and stage I ecu takes it up to 239kw.
A regular MKV GTI only had 147 and the stage I ecu took it up to 188kw. Stage 2 GTI is still only around 210kw.

These are all flywheel figures, so if you saw GTI's do 200+ atw, then they've obviously got something more than Stage I or II upgrades.

Guy_H's personal daily driver has been a Stage 3 Audi S3. It was measured at 250kw atw during the initial assembly of that (can't find the picture online anymore). It possibly does more than that now. Given the S3 and the R are the same car, if you really wanted 250kw at the wheels, the Golf R can be upgraded to do that.

I really like the black 19s on the Golf R but i would've thought VW made it so they did'nt buffet and scrape during slightly vigorous cornering, these are after all the official 19s for the car, or is it possible that the dealer being new to all this had neglected to set the car up correctly to have the 19 s over the 18s before sending it out for numerous test drive's ?

There is a screw in the guard that WhiteJames noticed had been removed on the car that he test drove. I think he said he noticed the wheel arch trim had been pushed under the guard trim so that it didn't need the screw there. If the car you drove had the screw in place, this is possibly what you heard when turning hard.
It would usually require turning relatively hard AND a bump, or turning very hard, to hear any rubbing against that though, so maybe there was some other issue with the car that you drove.

But lets be honest, 19" wheels are for posers. If you're serious about a good handling car, you won't be upgrading to the 19's. Even with the GTI, the 17" wheels have been shown to produce better lap times than the 18" wheels. 19" wheels are even worse. The profile is just too low and this negatively affects the handling of the car.

in regards to APR Stg 1 has anyone had any problem with any warranty issues with vw ? eg clutch problem?
i mean for about $1500-2000 it is a worthwhile upgrade.
