Golf R Specifications and Prices

Hi Sharkie, why don't you pay Highway a visit and as for Andres (acting sales manager). He seemed to suggest yesterday that they will be passing the corp discount onto their customers, no talk of 18 months etc. I bought my R32 from there as well.

An R would be great for $55-58k but not $70k.

2 problems there G-rig .... corporate discount comes from VWA and not the dealers themselves, sure they might discount a bit but that comes from their own bottom lines .... and the initial allocations and the Oct/Nov allocations do not have a car that matches my specs, so for me it will be an ordered in car, delivery circa January 2011 ....

Yeah, VWA were closed yesterday so wasn't a definite yes but i was talking about if you ordered one now. Approx 5 month wait. If you're getting it ordered 2011 I'd want to make sure it's an MY11?

Anyway still heaps better than Austral .

Hey guys i was thinking of changing my GTI order to a R. I really like the colour blue, and the faster/better specs of the R.

Current order: Golf GTI red - DSG 5 Door + 18" detroits, leather seats, RVC, sunroof, MDI

Change to new order: R blue - DSG 3 Door + sunroof, MDI, RVC.

What do you guys think?

Also, what do u guys think the price of the R order would be drive away?

I figure the drive away price in VIC is $59,182.31 for that spec (based on 3000 post code, the $495 euro plates, and no iTurd cable)

Check out the blue in the "flesh" first - you might find (like I did) that it isn't the best colour for the R.

I personally liked the blue the best. It's purely up to personal opinion. If I didn't get the blue, I'd probably get the United Grey - although to be honest, any tone (white, light grey (silver), grey (united), black) is a sucky compromise in my opinion.

Apologies Dermot, you have always been good the the VWW community ..... other eastern state dealers are far less interested in keeping their customers happy ... or even keeping the customers they already had .... if if only you were in QLD .....

I suggest you take up G-rig's suggestion and look around. Members from eastern states have already posted in here to say that they've received discounts, and I know others in real life who have. They are out there Maybe going the corporate route is the wrong move (if VGA isn't doing it yet), just negotiate a discount with the dealer.

I agree with coreying, I just called every dealer in NSW, asked what cars they had, told them which one I wanted and told them which price I wanted to pay. At the end of the day I made the same offer on 5 identical cars at 5 different dealer, all with just DSG and Leather (different colours). I said that I wanted $1,500 off, euro plates and MDI. In my case I said that I was willing to put a deposit down over the phone, of the 5 dealers I got a call back from 1 within 4 minutes of making the offer with them.
Now all I need to do is find somewhere to get my standard 18 inch wheels sprayed black to suit my new CW R?
Anyone know anywhere?

I would even consider painting them gun metal perhaps? The OEM ones are fairly anodised, not gloss black but either would look good.

Corey, not sure if i interpreted correctly but the dealer was saying that they may pass on the corp discount, not sure if it was a corp discount from VWA.. would have to seek clarification but seems like there is a little bit of room to move as most dealers are still here to sell cars.

Yeah, reading your post Sharkie, it was clear to me that you were more upset about not being able to get it now more than anything else. It's good to see that you're finally realising this (or that you've written it publically anyway!). But the fact that you would need to order a factory build (which may get here in late Nov, or early Dec, at least from what my dealer told me - yes, yes, I know ) means that you have a much better chance of negotiating a deal - because you're not one of the 500 people fighting for 50 cars!

IMO it's very affordable when you look at STI/EVO etc etc (even fully optioned up), and given the price may also contribute to very very long wait times on orders due to every man and his dog wanting and being able to afford one!

I think it would just be lucky if you got one in the first batch that matched your spec. Dealers shouldn't really have been taking pre-orders as they weren't actually ordering anything (more of a first-grabs if there was one close in spec).

If you ordered one now there'd be a better discount in 5 months anyway, if you can make do with your other cars for a while.

Even the many reshuffles of management has seen nothing change, even when Volkswagen visited which resulted in most of the management being shown the door nothing changed. I guess a turd is a turd no matter how you dress it up.

IMO - white or maybe the black. I wasn't sold on the blue or grey but that is my personal taste - YMMV.

Yes, I think $10K difference (it isn't actually 10K when you consider the standard inclusions that the GTI has as options) is worth it. Have you tested one yet?

Perhaps due to the strong AUD vs the Euro at the moment.

Yeah - what is the deal about needing to be one of the first in Australia to own the car? Why not wait a year till the hype has died down and you are able to secure a better deal?

I don't get it. e.g. People queuing overnight to be the first to buy an iPad, paying full retail for a new R. It is only a inanimate object. It doesn't define you as a person.

That is an interesting theory.

You must have alot more patience than me if you are prepared to wait up to 9 months to get a discount.
