  • Hey guys just purchased an R today. White, DSG and leather. Managed to get the price down from 61,500 to 60k drivaway, with MDI thrown in, euro plates and a couple extra goodies. There are some discounts to be had (although pretty small) but I guess its better than nothing.

    • Congrats on your purchase ganis5. Is Seaforth in QLD?
Is your car a factory order, or from current stock?

      • Na Seaforth in Sydney. Near Manly. The car was from current stock. It was supposed to be their demo, but it was the only white one they had. They where pretty reluctant to sell it and where trying to push me towards a blue one with the same options.

I've owned the 6sp DSG before, but whatever upgrades VW has done in the Golf R's 6sp DSG, it really seems to have made a nice difference. I can honestly say that I've never been in any "auto" car with smoother gear changes - yet none of them could compete when it would come to sporty quick runs. So yes - anyone who's tried a DSG in the past and hasn't liked it, give it another quick go when you test drive the R.

I also had a quick drive of the Golf R in manual. It feels like it has shorter throw of both the gear lever AND the clutch pedal compared to my Polo GTI. It sounded quite different to the DSG R, not only with gear changes, but even the engine note sounded different (maybe it's just cause it had such low KM's... I may have been the first test driver... the sales guy hadn't been in either car yet!).
          Hi Coreying
Did you get a price on the R you test drove and how was it spec'd.

          Cheers

          • Sorry, I didn't think to ask about the Golf R's that they had in stock at Denlo. They only had the two there, and both were for test drives.

Candy White, 5 door Manual, 19" Silver Talladega, Leather, Adaptive Chassis Control (no other visible options that I can recall).
United Grey, 5 door DSG, 18" Silver Talladega, Leather, Sunroof, RNS-510, RVC, Adaptive Chassis Control (no other visible options that I can recall)

This is great that you got a discount on that, even if it was only small. I'm surprised you got any on a model already here! Just goes to show that there are discounts out there for those wanting them - there are definitely discounts on order from the factory models, even if they're also not as large as some have experienced with the GTI.

You bast... good luck to you. Im waiting for it man and Im cut about it!! All good its going o be what I want.. But yeah getting it now would be great

              PS

A GOLF R goes better than a chipped polo. Period. I want to see a drag, or you cant talk smack about made up figures.

The figures from factory are underated etc.. I dont think a Polo will do 5.7 0-100. Nor will it keep up in the wet, as neither would a GTI.

But they are still lovely cars.. just dont know what people talk about they werent impressed!?! Thats Crazy talk.

The turbo although slightly laggy, definitely had more top end, and the car is glued to the road.

The only thing I miss is the mad little chirp's you get in a FWD, they make it seem faster and more fun!!

                • The Golf R is quicker than a chipped Polo GTI, it's just the way it delivers power is very different. Once the Polo is launched and not wheel spinning, the speed increase is rapid and you do get that push in the back. Also, around 100kph it still feels very "flighty" in 4th and even 5th. The Golf R is very refined and although quick, never gives that push in the back, because power is much more linear or something. Don't get me wrong, both are cool for different reasons. Both are obviously catering to different size points and price points.

Oh, maybe that was the white one. One of them did I'm sure, because I noticed that one had the "symbols" on the buttons and the other one didn't (and had two extra buttons).

Bah rubbish, you just haven't tried hard enough or they're not taking you seriously. Discounts can always be had...

Yeah it was the white one!

We should not confuse speed and acceleration with aural excitement.

The R I drove only had 200km's on the clock, and it had great power considering it is heavier than the GTI, and the motor still is tight as a.. cant think of anything not innappropriate.

Or the difference between a torque steering FWD feeling fast and a composed AWD that is fast

LOL, I did comment about that also. I think we need a seperate thread for the R haters (or maybe they're jealous hehe)

Ok that should ruffle some feathers, back next week

Its the same on SUBIE forums.. I think my WRX is great value and thats why I didnt get an STI..

                          • Hey guys i was thinking of changing my GTI order to a R. I really like the colour blue, and the faster/better specs of the R.

Current order: Golf GTI red - DSG 5 Door + 18" detroits, leather seats, RVC, sunroof, MDI

Change to new order: R blue - DSG 3 Door + sunroof, MDI, RVC.

                            What do you guys think?

Also, what do u guys think the price of the R order would be drive away?

You're right the FWD is quite fun to drive instead of outright speeding.. Occasional tyre screaching puts a grin on your face too. Certainly not slow but depends if you'll even go to the track or where you can use all the power.

                                RRP = $56530 drive away.
                                +$1900(SUNROOF)+$500(RVC)+270(MDI)+110 (cable)
                                =$59310

Thats without any possible stamp duty/LCT cause I dont know how that works.
                                Around $56K drive away?
