  • Absolutely. APR work + the AWD will make for some fun times that's for sure.

definately. no doubt a remap to 239kw will work wonders, but imo, for all round balance and everyday use, 199kw would have been perfect as a stock car.

How did you feel the car handled?

        • Have been told that my R is on route to Darwin. It left Adelaide on the 3rd... 7 days from Adelaide to Darwin?? I didnt think that there were too many stops in between!
Anyway, hopefully it arrives at Patrick's yard and then VW Darwin shortly!

This is my first experience in buying a VW - are they always this "secretive"? I am sure it must be part of some PR masterplan, but I fail to see the benefit... then again, I am now reasonably excited at the propect of having my car shortly!

No problems...at least we now know exactly what will be standard inclusions.

Has anybody had any luck on negotiating a discounted price on a soon to be delivered Golf R... or are the dealers playing hardball because of initial supply?

                • There is only one dealer in the NT and he wouldn't even consider a discount, corporate or otherwise.

I think that with limited initial supply will be very difficult to get a discount anywhere, but I wouldn't count one out entirely if there is the choice of a few dealers, and a few left over from teh initial allocation.

I was just glad that the RRP was $5k less than I had expected and so thought of that as my discount!

                  • Went and saw an R today. Was very impressed and definitely looks even better than in photo's.
I was always unsure about how the rear of the MKVI's looked but seeing the R has changed my mind on that, had quite a tough look to it.

Also looks as though we will get the blackened headlights when optioned with the 19 inch rims as the one i saw had them.

Unfortunately didn't take it for a drive though.

handles really well. obviously much better than a GTI and R32. very well balanced and not nose heavy like R32.

took it through many twistys and there is a tiny bit of body roll...but you would expect that anyway. some sway bars and ACC will help.

                        • Just got a call from my dealer. I have a car sitting allocated at Barloworld Mascot, apparently they only got 2 3dr and 8 5dr, with 30 customers with deposits down. Spec was:
                          White 3dr
                          19inch black alloys
                          Leather
                          DSG
                          MDI
                          SAT Nav
                          Sunroof
Worked out to 68k on the road. Going for a drive on saturday and then going to make a decision. Only wanted leather with DSG, so the other options are really not essential, but on the other hand they are expecting nov/dec delivery for any orders. Anyone know if any discounts will be had?

                          • If there are 10 cars to divide up between 30 paying customers... um, no...

I think if you want a discount you're going to have to be prepared to pass up on one of the cars already here and get in the cue for a factory order

You will probably be one of the first in the country to own one.
