Honeslty: no. But with them making an alleged effort to repair customer relations, I thought they would've at least tried.

The privacy tint is still blocks UV so you don't have to do the rear windows. Some tint guys try to sell you transparent UV blocking film which is unnecessary. My tint guy said that what they said is just bollocks.
      $400 + $140 > $395 for aftermarket tint.

It's a bit of a grey area what the dark glass is, but i haven't bothered doing clear anyway.. stuff it.

I've got a test drive booked in for saturday believe it or not with my dealer...for 20 minutes....haha. They won't give it out for longer than that (long list), and at this point, it's only the DSG model they have as the test car!

It blocks some UV but not anywhere near the amount that a good tint will block. Plus having film on the window helps if someone smashes your window by keeping the glass intact and making it harder to get in.

The privacy glass is not a $400 option - it should be standard. It was in the Pirelli.

By all means - spend the extra money if you see it necessary.
If they are determined to get in, the film isn't going to make much of a difference.

Mate i've felt the heat from it and it's nowhere as good as decent aftermarket film, and is also hard to match.

Well, it is standard so matching is still an issue even if you use a transparent UV film on the windows with privacy glass. Like I said, if you deem it necessary - by all means spend the extra $$ to put on the UV film on the rear three windows. But IMO and the opinion of the tinter I have used, it is a waste of money. Perhaps in QLD, it makes sense to have extra protection.

Even though I'd prefer a manual, I'd only get the .:R in DSG. I remember watching a video where the driver got 3 perfect, identical runs 0-60mph (5.7 IIRC). The manual varied from 6 up to 6.3 (again, IIRC).

                      • Yeah, a 6.4, 6.6 and 6.3 second runs in the manual - and 5.7 seconds in each of the three runs in the DSG. You can see the video on youtube here

                        • were those runs done with the detuned aussie version? or the stock european one?

Yaa thanks for that bud. As much as I miss my manual, you can't argue with DSG and Launch Control on a performance car when it returns those consistant figures.

Was the European version, I think it was the UK.

                            • driven!

i was lucky enough to get a 20km test drive in it today. it looks better in real life than in photos, much like the scirocco.

was a silver, 5dr DSG with leather as the only option.

needless to say, i jumped into the car with sore cheeks from smiling so much, and stepped out of the car with the same expression.

even being detuned, the R is still very quick. balance and handling is unreal. i was curious what the exhaust note would sound like in real life, and if i had to describe it, its a combination between the GTI and R32. deep rumbles with pops.

it revs furiously, particularly past 4000 on where it redlines in an instant. imagine if you had the full 199kw on tap...

the stock suspension on 18's feels pretty much like my mk5 GTI, maybe a touch stiffer. for me i would definately option it with ACC where sport mode will make that extra difference.

still, for a usable, practical, daily car - i honestly can't fault it.

                              mk2 GTI 16v

If it's that good in detuned aus spec, imagine how it would go with some help from APR's go fast bits.
